It's entirely arguable that he was better than Bush and still sucked balls.

this will be an incredibly unpopular post, but . . .

the bush administration has been entirely underestimated. I am convinced of that. history doesn't reveal the results of the options not taken, and the superficial thinkers among us don't seem to understand that.

Well when the GOP alternative is someone who wouldn't release his tax returns and called 47% of Americans 'freeloaders', that's what you get.

Maybe the 2016 candidate won't insult so many Americans as to make his election impossible. I wouldn't bet on it.

maybe so many americans won't be freeloaders in 2016. given obamanomics, I doubt it.

I'll respectfully disagree, but that's the beauty of posterity. We'll all find out together.

Since this thread is focused on Paul vs Perry plus referring to Reagan, an interesting piece in Politico:

http://http://www.realclearpolitics.com/...23372.html

I didn't realize that Reagan never visited the Middle East and should have recognized that he used the ME more as pawns against the USSR.

Quote:In his eight years as president, Reagan was ultra-cautious in his approach to the Middle East, the only exception being the horrific murder of 241 Marines and Navy seamen in Beirut, which Reagan considered his greatest regret and failure of his presidency.

Thereafter, he was both cagy and cautious when it came to the Middle East. In his entire presidency -- indeed, in his life -- Reagan never travelled to the region. He sold strategically important advanced-radar-equipped surveillance planes, called AWACs, to Saudi Arabia, over the loud protests of the Israelis -- and much of Congress. The sale of AWACs produced two immediate and beneficial consequences: First, the Saudis began pumping more oil and gas prices fell for the American consumer; and the Soviets’ profits on the sale of their oil dropped on the world market, weakening their Evil Empire.
