Track & Field Update (Funmi Jimoh and Lennie Waite)
Last weekend, at the Diamond League Meeting (Sainsbury's Glasgow Grand Prix), both Funmi Jimoh and Lennie Waite competed. A Diamond League Meeting is the top level of international competition, and I believe that it was Lennie's first one.

In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Lennie was 14th (of 14th competitors) in what was her toughest field ever. Emma Coburn (USA) broke the American record in finishing 2nd overall in 9:11.42. Lennie ran 9:54.62.

Funmi did not have a good effort, with just a 5th place finish in the long jump at 6.70 meters (21' 11¾").

Here's a review of Funmi's recent competitions and results:

July 8 (Székesfehérvár, Hungary) - 2nd place behind world leader Tianna Bartoletta (USA). Funmi jumped 6.76 meters (22' 2¼").

July 7 (Linz, Austria) - 1ST PLACE with 6.55 meters (21' 6").

June 11 (Bislett Games - Oslo) - 3rd place with 6.71 meters (22' 0¼").

RE: Track & Field Update (Funmi Jimoh and Lennie Waite)
Earlier today, Funmi competed in an unusual track meet in London. The Sainsbury Anniversary Games are held in the Horse Guards Parade and The Mall in the heart of London.

She was in a special long jump, with competitors limited to 4 attempts on a runway and pit set up in the street. She finished 2nd at 6.63 meters, just behind the 6.65 by Eloyse Lesueur of France.

Two laps to go ... Lennie's in 8th position. Three Kenyans and two Aussies in the lead.

10th in 9:51.93. I think she'll be a little disappointed with that. But, she just had very good news earlier this week, announcing her engagement to former Rice middle distance runner Matt Hoffman '09. They'll live in Austin.
