Tulane inks a 1-1 with MSU - Is a High Major
MSU release:

“Tulane provides yet another high major opponent for us with their move to the American Athletic Conference,” MSU head coach Rick Ray said in a school release. “The Green Wave will prove to be a great opponent for us and our fan base. Bulldog fans on the coast and in the New Orleans area will get a chance to see us play and hopefully provide a nice environment for us on the road.”

This is the third major conference opponent Ray has scheduled for the next two seasons. The Bulldogs will also play Atlantic Coast Conference foe Florida State and Pac-12 opponent Oregon State during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons."

A very beatable SEC team, we just have no size. Nice to be grouped together with two P5's on their non-conf schedule.

Very good scheduling choice. I'm really liking the sound of "High Major" a couple of years ago I thought Tulsa would be lumped into some mutant C-USA / MountainWest stepchild looking at the other kids play with the cool toys. As it turns out, we get to be the spoiled kids for a change!!!!! 04-cheers

That's our 3rd series against "P5" basketball teams, along with Wake and Washington.
Our scheduling issue is really the array of bad teams we play.

To be honest. These are the type of teams I see a lot of us scheduling going forward. Mid-tier P5 schools that are beatable.

Good pick up

This is far better than the no-name opponents we've played in prior seasons. I'd be nicer if it somehow made it onto national TV.....

The home game will surely be.

Just hope the road game doesn't end up on the SEC Network.

MBB. According to Mississippi State twitter feed, the game is at Tulane (Devlin) this year on December 6, and at Starkville next year:

RE: Tulane inks a 1-1 with MSU - Is a High Major
Sadly our Tulane coach and men's basketball team are one of the worst in the nation. Conroy cannot recruit. He is best known for his best players leaving his program. How can anyone be excited about Mississippi State? Maybe excited about their cow bells and eventually traveling to beautiful Starkville for a return series. I would be excited if Duke,UNC ,Wake Forest,Georgetown,Syracuse etc came into New Orleans. We are entering this coming season with the AAC as one of the best basketball conferences in the nation with U Conn,SMU,Memphis and Cincinnati. It is going to be embarrassing and humiliating for Tulane as our Tulane coach cannot recruit blue chip players or coach. On a positive note adding Mississippi State to the schedule is better than the usual bottom feeders in the nation Conroy has added to the Tulane schedule since taking over.

Jonathan it is so nice to see you complain about something else other than Rick Jones and his salary.

Good tip to the OP.

I never heard of the coach before so no clue about what sport or what MSU school he/she was talking about.

Rick Ray is going to be reprimanded by the SEC for saying that.

Not bad, but would be much more excited to hear if this was football.

We actually have a pretty good OOC lineup going forward. A good mix of P5 teams and more than the average AAC team in #.

I think his point was if the FB coach called Tulane/AAC team high major, it would move the dial a bit.

Exactly. The lines have always been different in Bball where the Catholic 10 and the Atlantic 10 are arguably high-major as well. The AAC has the defending national champion and multiple tourney bids...there's no way we are anything but a high major in basketball.

The other thing that I am glad that the Tulane football administration does not do is taking these pay to play million dollar games from SEC teams where they know they will lose but need the money to keep their football program alive. I see that with most of the teams teams in the two lower conferences below the AAC that have teams in Louisiana.
