Oddly enough, Tulsa is 2nd only to Rice in games played against UH. In a couple of years, Tulsa may take over.
1966 - (73-14) First blowout of the series.
1967 - (13-22) Houston is in the top 10 going into the last week of the season. Loses to Tulsa and drops UH from the polls (AP only ranks top 10 at the time).
1968 - (100-6) still bothers many Tulsa fans even though it was over 40 years ago and many fans weren't even born. Some say Tulsa players were sick. Some Yeoman ran it up as payback for 1967. Last 2 TDs were very unlikely. Future Country and Western legend Larry Gatlin enters the game as WR as opposed to his normal CB and scores the next to last TD. Last TD was on a punt return. Here's a nice
write up and box score of the game.
1988 - (82-28) The Run & Shoot is unleashed. The 82 points is the most the UH R&S scores until meeting SMU in 1989.
2007 - (7-56) sticks in the craw of many UH fans. Story is that Art Briles was hanging out with Baylor power brokers that week instead of taking care of the Tulsa game plan. Game determined the division championship. Briles leaves later in the season to Baylor
2008 - (70-30) payback for 2007
2009 - (46-45) One of the best games of all time. Todd Graham is a hated coach in Houston and all UH fans believe he told his players to fake injuries throughout the game to try to slow the fast paced UH offense. Tulsa scores with 3:28 to play to go up 45-37. UH takes the ball 61 yards to score, but fails on the 2 point conversion. With 21 seconds left, UH gets the onside kick. They drive 27 yards setting up the freshman kicker for a 51 yard FG attempt. He buries it into the endzone facility leading to the legendary line from the UH announcer: "Graham, stick it in your pipe and smoke it!" Great
highlight video on YouTube. Kick is at about the 7 minute mark. If you like homer calls by announcers, this one is very entertaining.
Close series with so many good games. Lots of blowouts though too.
