O/T: End of an era, Tom Markowski retires at the Detroit News

Dennis maybe more than any other here probably spent time reading Tom's columns on MI high school sports.

To follow recruiting was to follow Tom Markowski, esp. in the era before the Internet.

Tom had a great career at the Detroit News, and I'll admit even working in D.C., before the Internet, having lunch and going to a downtown newsstand and buying the Detroit News a couple times a week to get all the stories on Detroit (and MI) high school sports.

Instead of Rivals.com and Scout.com it was the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press.

I especially remember 1992 when the Detroit News Dream Team was: Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Vashon Leonard, Theron Wilson (he was a dream teamer), and one more. Webber and Rose, of course, went to UofM, Leonard went to Minnesota, and Wilson played on our 1996 team which beat Duke in the NCAAs.

That WAS a Dream Team!! (and Detroit h.s. basketball hasn't been the same).
