Starting UM Online next month - help me be a better Tiger!
So I'm almost 30 and have decided to continue my education this fall online at UM (from my elaborate classroom/bedroom in South Carolina). I finished my freshman year of college 12 years ago and then dropped out to pursue a career. With a wife and 7-month-old daughter, something kind of "clicked" in me that I needed my degree and after a lot of research decided that UM's online program was the best fit for me. Taking classes around a full-time job and family life seems a little daunting, but I'm pretty good with time management and am hopeful I can pull it off.
But as I enter the UM family, I'm hoping you guys can give me some pointers on the Tigers - anything that will make me less noobish. I know the very basics about UM hoops and football (the coaches, the recent accomplishments from the basketball team) but what are the expectations this year? Players to watch? I'm going to watch as many games as I can this fall, so I just need a little catching up so I'll be ready to roll.
Looking forward to being a member of the community!
(I put the post in this forum instead of the sports forum because it was a little more "personal" than the sports forum posts...but if the mods want to move it, that's cool.)

Awesome! Welcome aboard, and congrats on choosing Memphis.
1. Don't take Tigerscane literally; he is harmless.
2. Order some bbq online, Corky's, Rendevous, etc.
3. Make sure you have the correct shade of Tiger blue.

I bought a polo and hat from the online bookstore last week, so I hope I'm good in that regard.
I actually didn't realize you could order Rendezvous BBQ online...I'm about to look into that.

Welcome to the family!
Try Central BBQ. As a former Memphian, I make a couple orders a year from them. They're the best.
as far as following the Tigers from afar, it's gotten easier with the AAC contract. Many games are on ESPN online now if they're not on TV.

In 2009 I went back to UM, totally online. Been there, done that. It was even better than the first time, I learned more online than I ever did in a classroom. I took 36 hours and graduated in 2011. The main thing is don't get behind, keep up with the reading no matter what.
What's your field of study? If you're taking online history classes, I might be able to help. I got a 4.0 for all 36 hours and most were history.

I didn't go to Memphis, don't cheer for Memphis (well, sometimes I do), but I cheer you, good sir.
I think it's very awesome that you're doing this and wish you nothing but the best.
