Louisville 24
Wake Forest 13
2) October 14, 2004 @ Miami Florida
Miami 41
Louisville 38

Louisville 44
Boise State 40 11-1.
3) September 5, 1992 @ Ohio State

Two Southern Miss losses...the Brett Favre Hail Mary which bounced off a defenders head to go to USM WR and Future NFL Player Michael Jackson and the Mills Kills play in Papa John's in 1999 I think.

They were too Maizes but they did not effect our program as much as the other three losses did. Of course that is just my opinion.

That Rutgers game will forever be the most heartbreaking UofL loss in any sport for me. We win that and we are playing for the National Championship. Blew a 25-7 first half lead. That will forever be a dagger

Here's one heartbreaking loss and a heartbreaking tie.
Date Jan. 1, 1988
VS #6 Auburn
Location New Orleans, LA
Score 16-16
Outcome Auburn kicks a field goal with 1 second remaining to tie the game at 16. Syracuse finished #4 with a 11-0-1 record.
Date Sept. 5, 1998
VS #10 Tennessee
Location Syracuse, NY
Score 33-34
Outcome Syracuse stops Tennessee on 4th down with under 2 in the 4th but a phantom pass interference is issued giving the Vols a first down. They would go on to kick a field goal and win the game. Tennessee went on to win the national championship.

The Biggest Heartbreak was losing Michael Bush in the opener with Kentucky for the '09 season. No way ever would We have lost to Rutgers. We might not have been in the NCG but it would have been interesting talk on a National scale. But We might have wound up in the Big12 instead of the ACC and that would have been Sad.

We would never have been happy in the Big 12 as it is. If the Big 12 had gone to 12 teams maybe.
1)West Virginia
2) Cincinnati
3) Louisville
4) Iowa State
5) Kansas
6) Kansas State
7) Oklahoma
8) OKlahoma State
9) Texas
10) Texas Tech
11) Baylor
12) TCU
The above Big 12 would have been greatly superior as to being in the AAC. However, culturally we have more in common with the ACC and the travel is much better. The ACC is where I always dreamed about Louisville becoming a member. Now it is not a dream. Life is good.

Agreed...but even if the Big XII looked like this with Louisville i still would much rather be in the ACC as is currently...if the ACC ever went to 16 With ND still with Non Football Membership would be Maryland and Penn State as 15/16...

But those last 2 aren't viable any more so Either UC and/or UConn are the Currently available programs to step right in. Unless WVU were suddenly available.

This is a solution for football to 16 in the ACC:
#15 Army football only/Notre Dame
#16 Navy football only/Georgetown

How can the UCF loss last year not be on this list. The way the season shook out when Ohio state and Alabama lost. ....... man o man

UofL still would not have leaped frog either FSU or Auburn...Miami is/was a much more compelling opponent than Baylor.

Regardless I still think the loss to UCF in the last year of the BCS was more significant than a close loss to Ohio State as an independent

RE: Louisville's three toughest heart-breaking football losses.
Sorry but there was nothing heartbreaking about another Coach Strong WTF loss.
Nothing that guy did surprises me. So glad he is Texas problem now.
My 3 most heartbreaking games, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory:
1. Rutgers - a missed opportunity
2. Southern Miss - Farve's pass bouncing off our DB straight into Michael Jackson's hands.
3. WVU - Major Harris scrambling away from Joe Johnson
I realize 2 and 3 probably aren't memorable losses to many fans. I remember these because I was there at the game. For me there is something terrible about that long walk to the car knowing that we gave the game away.
