Wait a minute, doesn't the computer give any extra weighting or credit for all the awesome motivational slogans, symbols, and 'new traditions' that P.J. has implemented since taking the helm?

That's just not fair! 03-hissyfit

Idaho and Murray St are basically toss ups...like those chances. Win the coin flip there and we get to 4 wins. I can live with that 04-cheers

RE: Massey rankings
Bottom line we're probably going to be bad again this season, at least record-wise. Which is really depressing - third year in a row.

Hopefully we can at least play better-be more competitive even if losing.

Future is just a guess.

Major, I know you are very skeptical of Flecks ability to coach, even if he is only as competent as he was last year there are other variables to consider.

You can't deny there will be an infusion of talent between transfers, redshirts, the return of injured players, and true freshmen. There may be a few Corey Davis's in this group and if nothing else there will be added depth.

For all of his early gaffs his team was still playing hard right up to the last game. I'm not an X's and O's guy, so I can't speak to his game day prep and decisions, but it looks like the guy has a knack for motivating. He's a smart guy. I have to believe he'll improve with experience.

This schedule is friendlier than last years.

We had a grad assistant as our special teams coach, and at one point we had 8 Walk ons on that unit.

I thought Mike Hart helped Hill and Brumfield overachieve at EMU. I think he'll be an asset.

Not many things in this world stay the stats quo. When faced with adversity we tend to scratch and claw to improve our condition. No coach just goes through the motions, but some get comfortable. I think this staff will out work a lot of people, because they're young and have loftier goals.

Friendlier schedule, his recruits, his choice of returning players, his second year. There had better be improvement or all this happy talk is just idle bs. You know, like last year all year.

I do too. I would LOVE to eat crow about his/their coaching ability.

Fair enough, CD. All you posted may come to pass (hopefully).

But even if we win four games (three more than last year) - beat FCS team, the two MACs plus Idaho we're playing with new coaches-rebuilding - 4-8 is still a bad record.

If we beat Central and get to 5-7 (four more than last year), still a losing season.

Progress, yes.

But only because we regressed so far last season.

We still will be in bottom half of MAC after at least being in "top half" (USA TODAY preview).

It's easy to believe that NIU, BSU, and UT WILL JUST KEEP CHUGGING ALONG.

I think that will be true of UT. They weren't a one man wrecking crew and they've had several great recruiting classes. I think NIU AND BSU will lose some games that people don't expect.

Lembo has shown he can coach other peoples talent. I think Wennings and Sneads shoes will be extremely hard to fill (think Carder/White hard).

As for NIU, if they can come up with a Harnish/Lynch type QB after 3 straight coaching changes I'd be shocked. Their monster RB Stingley may turn out to be a load, but without a mobile passing QB their production will go down, and those 30 PT second halves might become less frequent.
