Congratulations to the Cavaliers. Getting the #1 pick in consecutive drafts no doubt influenced James decision to return to Cleveland. He has young talent to work with while the talent core in Miami is aging. Will make for an interesting 14/15 NBA season.

I don't follow the NBA much, but I imagine James taking his talents back to the Snow Belt is one of the more surprising sports stories of the year. Especially considering his messy divorce with Cleveland (and with the Cavs' owner in particular) just a few years ago.

It's indirectly good the the MAC. More basketball excitement in Cleveland, more money flowing in, and way more media presence.

Actually think it is bad for Cleveland area college teams, unless LeBron somehow reaches out to them. Fewer eyes will be on Akron, Kent St, and Cleveland St because the Cavs presence will be so overwhelming.

The question is, with his beat years well behind him, does it make any difference at this point for Cleveland

LeBron is 29 yrs old. He's got another 4-5 years at his peak.

True. But, it also allows him to get a max deal next year.

RE: OT - LeBron Going Home
My feelings about this letter must be very different than the other guys posting in this thread. I thought that was the best letter I have ever seen from a superstar. I have long admired LeBron, this letter is not surprising to me, it fits exactly in with his comments over the past 4 years.
He is going to work very hard (as he has always done) and he is going to provide as much leadership and direction as he possibly can for this group of guys. He is also a bigger person than the owner for sure, and certainly the vast number of NE Ohio fans. He has owned up to any mistakes he has made, just as he always does in his postgame conferences, and he is going to give his best effort to make up for any past mistakes. This time he did not promise any titles, just that he would give all he had to make it happen.
As for any effect on MAC basketball, LeBron did attend the MAC tournament in the past (of course a couple his hs basketball teammates and coachs were at Akron at the time). LeBron being back with Cleveland also means a great deal prestige wise for getting to play the MAC tourney at the Q, which will become one of the most prestigious and famous arenas in the world. So I think there might be some carryover benefits for us.

That's only because of the new salary limits that will be coming after the new TV deal starts next year.

I have a slightly different take:
How can or does LeBron aid Akron?
I can see him giving money, time and effort to the program.
I'd bet that if he has a chance LeBron might show up at an Akron game or two. Maybe LeBron James night?
Maybe have one of those summer skills camp at Akron.

If I were the AD at Akron (or Kent State or Cleveland State), I'd put out a standing invitation to LeBron to take over as head basketball coach when his career is over. Not that I'd ever expect him to take up the offer. If he did take up the offer, having him associated with the program would bring in a lot of support. Even if he'd never accept the offer, just having it out there would bring publicity, mentions in the media, get recruits thinking about U of Acorn, etc

But that was before he "went to college" at Miami.
