The Sports Network Website -June 9th "Must See FCS Matchups"
This was my old "searching grounds" to get latest scoop on FCS, CAA & JMU football information. I have been less addicted to it lately since the new era of JMU football began and CSNbbs introduction. However I find it interesting that Craid Haley, who visited Godwin Field on few occasions, did not include any JMU games worth watching for the 2014 season. Richmond (tics) were mentioned twice with UVA & WM games...................I guess we are unofficially divorced from FCS and TSN and thats a good thing!!

JMU is getting little love from every where.

Even CAA is distancing themselves from us by not posting many tweets about us since after last football season. Hope withers and company whoop some ass this year

I don't think it is shocking that we are not being predicted to do well. We have all new coaches and lots of changes in personnel. While we are excited for the changes, most outside observers will take a wait and see approach.

I think it is a good sign that the CAA is distancing themselves from us. Hopefully that points to the fact that the CAA knows that we will be gone shortly.

I'll be interested to see what the CAA Preseason Teams look like. I think Marlow will be on the second or third team and will be the only Duke on it.

By the way, has anyone heard when CAA Media Day is? Its usually about two weeks from now.

If Marlowe is any lower than 2nd-team All-CAA (preseason), I'm officially calling shenanigans.

RE: The Sports Network Website -June 9th "Must See FCS Matchups"
Although it is frustrating, I do understand why we're not being talked about too much.
Please take off your purple sunglasses and think as an outsider for a minute. Most people are going to judge a program based on it's last 5 seasons, if they even go back that far. Anything you did prior to that is insignificant to them.
Here we are:
2009 - 6-5
2010 - 6-5, Historic Win over #13 Virginia Tech as the highlight
2011 - 8-5, FCS playoff appearance, 1-1 record
2012 - 7-4
2013 - 6-6

5 years, 1 playoff appearance. They see a 15-year coach that was just fired, they see we finished 3rd worst in our conference in 2013 and had a mediocre record. We were winless on the road. A loss to conference newcomer Stony Brook. How does any of this inspire confidence in our program?
They see a new coach, which is always a question mark. They don't know how things will be because it's all very much in the air. Until real football is played, I can't say I blame them for assuming the past trend of mediocrity will continue until proven otherwise.

In 2014, if you want to be considered a meaningful FCS team, you probably should have made the 2013 playoffs.
Does the national media focus on 3rd worst ACC teams? We're essentially the Wake Forest of the FCS world right now, at least from a competitive standpoint.

Us not being talked about is the best thing that could happen to this program. I want this team to fly under the radar and surprise people. Plenty of teams receive preseason hype and do not live up to it at seasons end. Hopefully this team plays with a chip on their shoulder. The only poll that matters is the final one.

Yeah I agree. Hopefully the first surprise will be at Byrd Stadium.

He is better than Coulson, nowhere near as good as Dowd was

Anyone is better than Coulson...except (gasp) Bayliss.

There is no 2nd-3rd team. He was 1st team last season. Might have been in 12' also. He'll be the lone 1st teamer on it this season.

Can't be on something that doesn't exist. In the past there has been only a 1st team for pre season.

It's been awhile - but I still think Withers is a half full situation. You can make an arguement either way on him or this season.

I like the hire a lot. I like bringing in someone not in the current family.

The positives

Was head coach at major college. Has NFL experience. Has been high ranking coaches for top college coaches. Love his recruiting so far at least from a distance looking in. Very excited about the new QB. May be the biggest deal to me other than hiring of Withers.

Negatives

Didn't exactly perform up to what was expected at UNC with Butch's recruits. The players he's coached on defense has been the weakest part of teams he's coached lately. Lack of experience and pedigree of his coaching staff - which is likely due to him given lack of budget for assistants.

I'm optimistic about this year and think playoffs are more likely than not. I think our games in the future will be more high scoring on both sides. If not for the changes in QB I would not be as optimistic about this year. If Lee comes in motivated and not thinking 1AA is a cake walk we could have an exciting season.

I agree. Withers is a wait and see for me too. I do like what I have seen and heard him do so far.

In addition to the QB, JMU will have two solid new additions to the offensive line this year. The UNC transfer and don't forget about Lane. He was probably JMU's best lineman until he got hurt before the season started last year. Adding to lineman with their size and talent is huge on our level. Reminds me of the year JMU brought in Rascatti, got Steifeld back from injury for his Senior year and Corey Davis started as a Freshman. That was the year we won the NC.
