Yes, the class looks good and there are reasons to be optimistic, but a whole lot of things can happen between now and LOI signing day.
I think you need an anti-depressant. So far indicators are good- conference bedamned. Relax.
I don't think I said anything about the conference (here at least)... All I said is that there is a long way to go.

RE: UC's 2015 class shaping up to be among highest-rated
I think it's a solid class so far. Good for a non-P5 school. I don't think any class will end up as good or as highly rated as the one signed 3 years ago. From top to bottom I think that was probably the best overall class I've seen UC land. The good thing is I feel confident UC has the talent on the current roster and with what they are bringing in to remain consistently a 9-10 win type team (relative to their schedule) just about every season.

That class, while strong on paper, did not live up to its ranking. The following players either never made it here or left within 1-2 years in the program:
Chad Hannah
Stevie Weatherford
Demetrius Alston
Carroll Philips
Jamel Poteat
Akise Teague
Percy Johnson
Rodriguez Coleman
Daniel Murray
Patrick Coyne
Trenier Orr
The biggest producers from that class are: Silverberry Mahoun, RDAIV, Max Morrison, Chris Moore, Shaq Washington and Parker Ehinger.
The best class, in hindsight, was the 2008 class that included:
Isaiah Pead
DJ Woods
Derek Wolfe
Walter Stewart
Travis Kelce
JK Shaffer
Dominque Battle
Brendan Kay
Dan Giordano
George Winn
Camerron Cheatham
Sean Hooey
Evan Davis
Brandon Mills
Danny Milligan

I was referring to the class after that with Green, Bond, Dowdy, Pace.....guys like that. That class was really really good and UC beat out a lot of major BCS programs for those kids.
Granted they've had some turnover too (which is the norm when coaching changes happen), by losing guys like Coney and Buckley and the baffling move of Caleb Stacey just giving up on football. The biggest hit was probably Errol Clarke not qualifying out of HS. Sure wish he could have made the grades coming out.

Yeah, all of those Miami Central guys ended up being busts. In hindsight it also looks like Warren Central didn't pan out for us either save for Temple and Bond.
On paper I do like what this staff is doing. They are recruiting a ton of guys on the defensive line (which we have always struggled to do) and are getting tremendous length and speed in secondary. I also like the addition of Taylor Boose. We have needed a big power back like him for several years now.
I know people are complaining about the local recruits and star ratings, but frankly I will take my chances on a three star kid from down south over a four star kid from Ohio or Indiana.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this class rise and then level out. As we've seen with a lot of our classes I'm sure once the season starts and then ends I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the 2* guys bump up to 3*.

One of those guys who may have jumped from a 2* to potentially even a 4*, Antonio Howard, just decommited today. Its widely assumed that he will be receiving an Alabama offer by week's end. Unfortunate that a kid can't look at a depth chart.

He's a headache and not worth the trouble. He'll end up sitting on the bench for 2-3 years and transferring. You're better off.

Where did you come up with the information for that statement?

He's been saying stuff like that on the main board ever since he committed to UC. He's the ONLY person I've heard anything bad about him from.
Just a shame the kid will languish on a bench somewhere for three years as opposed to playing. Wish kids understood their positions on the depth chart.

Bummer to lose Howard, but it's obvious that OL is a much greater need for this program.

With the exception of the 2010 season, UC has been ranked in the top 30 in sacks and TFL every year since 2006. That's 8 of the last 9 years. I don't know how well UC recruits the D-line, but they sure as heck have developed some great talent in that position.
Temple, Mouhon, Blair, Giordano, Williams, Wolf, Hughes, Stewart, Mills, Daniels, Barwin, Byrd....
UC has had some great D-lineman.
Other than the Mike Mickens senior year class, UC's defensive backfield has been far less than stellar. UC's passing defense has been ranked outside the Top 50 every year since then. Maybe part of that is because their d-line is so consistently good. I'm ecstatic to see Tubberville focusing hard on that position.

I think you are forgetting how consistently good the pass defense was last year. The numbers for 2008 and 2013 are practically identical.

But remember that most of those guys were not highly regarded by the recruiting services... Hate him for other things, but Dantonio knew how to evaluate and develop talent. Nakamura was a 2* and I think most of the others were either 2* or NR coming in.
My point here was that was not lauded as a spectacular class when they signed.

RE: UC's 2015 class shaping up to be among highest-rated
There was a rerun on 60 Minutes the other night about Malcolm Gladwell and his book entitled "David and Goliath." He argues that underdogs, like the biblical David, may enjoy an advantage in competitive environments because they're more motivated and have to be more creative in order to prevail. Another example he cited was of a successful CEO who was seriously dyslexic, but who compensated by training himself to be a very effective listener. It's better, I think, to have a bunch of highly motivated two and three-stars who are trying to prove something rather than a bunch of gifted prima donnas who show up at practices and games with a sense strong of entitlement. They're usually the ones who bail on a program when the coach doesn't put them in the starting lineup the first game of their freshman year.

UC has been finding stud defensive lineman since the days of Rick Minter. It's incredibly impressive when you look at the list of guys who have come through the UC program on defensive line. Going back to Minter I'd add Cole, Peak, Frazier and Mike Wright off the top of my head. I know there were some other ones as well.
