RE: Reason-Rupe poll on Millenials
I've consistently said over the last several years that the generation coming through college right now will drastically change our nation as they age. They simply view the world through a different set of lenses than prior generations. They've grown up in a wired world that is socially connected in ways that prior generations couldn't even imagine. One of the hallmarks of the rising generations is a disdain for doing things a certain way (or doing them at all) just because they've been done that way before. They have little faith in society's institutions(government, banks, churches, etc.) Another hallmark is their lack of tolerance for bigotry in any form. They are an egalitarian generation for sure and are quick to confront those who cross that line. I think minor parties such as the Libertarian Party and the Green Party will gain more traction with them since they aren't enamored with the Democratic Party and overwhelmingly reject the GOP.

RE: Reason-Rupe poll on Millenials
Quote:A Reason-Rupe survey of 2,000 Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 finds 66 percent of millennials believe government is inefficient and wasteful.

So if this 66% agrees with the 100% of conservatives who also believe government is inefficient and wasteful, then we could have an early but extremely merry Christmas this November.

I don't know if they'd support those who've contributed to the wasteful and inefficient gov't.

I'm surprised they found 2,000 millenials with a long enough attention span to complete the survey.

yeah, I said it.

Indeed. If it were possible to get absolutely nothing from a poll of statistical significance, here you go.

1 thing I did take away was that 51% favor taking from those currently on social security, likely because they know good and well that they won't be working to repay the system. Me, me, me. Truly disgusting.

They did say that they wouldn't mind seeing Social Security being privatized. In a way I could sympathize with them not wanting to pay into Social Security. Why pay into something that more than likely won't be around in 30 years? I don't want to take money away from those that paid into it for 40+ years either. They deserve that money.

I think you're giving us way too much credit to be honest. One thing I'll agree with you about is doing things as they were done before, which is scary. Some things can change with minimal impact on society, but other things are going to pull this country down. At one point, the government was run by legitimately smart individuals with this country's best interest in mind. The reversal of their policies will happen more and more quickly.

They've grown up under liberal indoctrination. However, people become more conservative as they age. Only true liberals stay liberal.

and to be honest, this poll is a indication that we have raised a crop of pretty naive people.

You'll be wrong. They're a generation that is acted upon. They'll be overwhelmed by the things set in motion by the baby boomers.

I recently attended a concert - Bluesday Tuesday - at Overton Square and the diversity of the crowd was impressive. If the entire country could get along as well as the hippies, dirty hippies, blacks, whites, youngsters and oldsters in attendance at that event our country would benefit. Unfortunately we have divisive people like you still fomenting disharmony and discordance.
