RE: CBS Best in College Sports Award - Much better than the Capital One Cup
This is a pretty good ranking, although I think the list of wild card sports is too narrow. I like the idea of trying to give minor sports their due without overemphasizing them, but why draw the line at only those 7 sports (Lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, women's gymnastics, wrestling, ice hockey and softball)? And of that list, only softball and women's soccer are sponsored by most of the FBS leagues. I doubt even half of FBS schools have Lacrosse, ice hockey and men's soccer and women's gymnastics. Meanwhile, there are other sports like golf, tennis, volleyball, swimming and diving, track and field that are sponsored by almost all leagues and probably 75% of FBS schools. I think they should expand the "wild card" category to include more sports and it would be a real good ranking.

And they ONLY ranked FBS squads - all other colleges (Big East, FCS) don't exist in this world.

Despite a 'small' athletic budget and a 'not big enough' media market, ending up at #34 is a big deal

Agreed.
Either that or move Baseball to wildcard status. Plenty of states where other college sports trump college baseball

The point of these is to see how their total sports program does, not how their revenue sports do. You can just measure the $ if that is what you are interested in. Maybe the director's cup could be tweaked, but the capital one is ridiculous. It just includes sports ESPN televises. This is basically just revenue sports.
