We have so many new members from new schools. Maybe this post will help us all to get along better.

List your trolls so we all know who to ignore. We all need to stick together on this. If we ignore them, they go away.

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

It's not your place or anyone else's to list the people who should be ignored. There should be a free exchange of ideas, and no one will agree on everything.

I think AndreWhere is right. Why don't we just shut this down, now...moderators??????

No one objects to a free exchange of ideas but there are posters whose only purpose is to heap hate and discontent on another school. Some may have facts but mostly it's half-truths or downright lies.

On the North Texas board we have an ignore button. We have several trolls that I totally ignore and don't have to even look at their drivel. It's good for my blood pressure. On our old board the website owner had to pay for the bandwidth used so it was costing him for rants that could be quite lengthy. No one needs that. Free speech wasn't free for everyone.

On this board we can report the posts to the moderator and that's the method that we should use. Disagreement is fine and in some cases even healthy for rational people. But, trolls are not rational people. Their one purpose is to be a thorn in the side of that school. If that gets ignored then they will come to the conference board and continue their process, often under another name. We don't need that.

Geez, this board sure is a lot more uptight than the Sun Belt board.

What's the use of having the ignore button if people keep quoting them and they keeping coming out. I would do away with the quote part of it so that we wouldn't have to read the posts from people we ignore. jmho

I think most of us know who they are. And if someone is new to the thread, they'll find out soon enough regardless. Every university will have a couple people here and there whose main objective is to instigate, but I don't think it's right to compile lists of people and effectively throw supporters of our own ranks to the wolves, under the bus, or whatever colloquial expression we prefer.
