University of Houston Announces Stadium Naming Rights Deal-15 Million
HOUSTON--The University of Houston and TDECU, the largest credit union in the Houston area, announced a naming rights gift Tuesday that rebrands the Houston Football Stadium as TDECU Stadium. The facility is set to open Aug. 29 when Houston hosts UTSA in a nationally televised showdown.
"With TDECU, we have a great friend of the University that shares our philosophy, values and mission. When two winning teams come together, great things happen," said University of Houston President Renu Khator. "TDECU Stadium is a powerful symbol of our commitment to athletics and student success that will bring together faculty, staff, students, alumni and the city of Houston. We cannot thank TDECU enough for helping us to make this gift possible."
TDECU Stadium will include a TDECU suite located on the 50-yard line, one of 26 sold-out suites in the facility, as well as ticket discounts for TDECU employees and members. A 10-year, $15-million commitment from TDECU secures the naming rights with the University of Houston through June 16, 2024.
"From the beginning of this process, we have been very strategic with how we chose our naming rights gift. We wanted an entity that aligned with our core values, cared about its workforce and its clients, invested in thecommunity and the University. We've found that and more with TDECU," said University of Houston Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mack Rhoades. "When we first met with TDECU in an initial exploratory meeting, we quickly established a bond with (TDECU President and CEO) Stephanie Sherrodd and the leadership team of TDECU. From there, it was a matter of placing our vision on paper and capturing both philosophies. Both parties are truly committed to what they can give and what we can provide to make each other better."

1.5 million per year...one of the most lucrative per year payouts for a college stadium. Not bad.

Seriously, gotta do something about that name...can they use just a portion of their full name instead of the whole acronym, or are they just sticking with TDECU Stadium?

Hopefully it morphs into Texas Dow Stadium.
That seems very FB worthy.

Right, that's what I was thinking. Part of their name so they're still getting credit, but not the whole thing. It would be a smart move haha

Could be worse? You could have the holding company of a another company put BOTH names on the building, and let people outside of the area think it is supposed to be a slogan instead of the name of the company.
Of course I am talking about the KFC YUM Center. YUM! being the name of the parent company that owns KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut.

I am sarcastically embracing the name. ECU fans are cool, so I don't really mind it. If It was TDUCF or TDUofL Stadium, then we'd have a problem.

No, Those good Folks are giving us $15 million so who cares ? It will probably go to a nick name like "The Cage" because of the pierced stainless steel panels used in the skin of the stadium . Of course , Cougars have cages and we welcome you all to join us in ours .
Thank you Texas Dow Employee Credit Union for your generosity and we look forward to our partnership in the future !

Congrats on the $$$ haul! Money is money and our schools need every dime to keep us in the race. Should help Houston big time. Wish we could score like that.

From what I understand it is THE BIGGEST EVER for a college football stadium, not just "one of".
