ECU Fans
ECU Fans,
I just wanted to post that while I have mentioned a few times that many of the ECU posters have gotten on my nerves, I have to respect your program's history of both support and on-field success. I fully respect how passionate your fanbase is, and should probably realize that a little overzealousness comes with the territory in the southern part of the country. It's something you didn't see too much in the Big East, outside of WVU, which wasn't exactly always the most pleasant experience. Regardless, your passion for ECU football is outstanding, and I hope that the basketball program can see a lot of growth in the AAC as well.
I really do look forward to playing you guys again, and I think things will be very different than many of the games played back in CUSA. I hope to make a trip out there for a road game in the next 3 years, and encourage you to visit Cincinnati when ECU and UC play in Nippert, as its truly a great experience that should become truly amazing when the new work is completed.
Here's to the football season starting soon.

Pirates are a prideful bunch, for better and worse, but you'll find that the same pride will exist for the conference too. Pirates will always be first to the fight defending their school and conference.

Have to admit I was a little bummed when I found out that ECU & Cincy would be playing in the NFL stadium this year. I love UC's stadium, and can't wait to see the finished product!

+1 having a fanbase like ECU's as part of the conference is a huge positive.

And the game was moved to a Thursday night, which is great for national exposure, but bad for any ECU fans wanting to travel. I will say this....
all of the downtown hotels are super close to the stadium and we have no shortage of good bars next to the stadium at The Banks.

I don't necessarily believe the "overzealousness" has to do with the region as much as it has to do with the fact that ECU was told it couldn't do this, that, or the other thing by UNC, NC State, and their tools in the legislature up to the time that Dr Leo Jenkins became chancellor and told them all that yes would could and will. That's where the chip and passion comes from.

Thanks, I hope you will still feel that way about midway through the season especially if we are having a good season....we are Proud and Loud and love to live in the Purple Haze I know we are excited about being a member of the AAC.

I hope we just continue to build this thing into something to be proud of. Last year was great. I know we all have some tough games this year, but it would be nice in the future to see us consistently beat lower to mid P5 teams until we can increase our overall recruiting, exposure and fan bases. It would be amazing if we could tackle our OSUs, Miamis, S. Carolinas, Mizzous, Texas A&Ms of the world this year. That's a pretty tall order though.

Thank you for the kind message. I guess having some folks getting on your nerves comes with the message board territory. We do have a reputation as a passionate fan base, but like I tell my Pirate friends, that is old news. It is time for East Carolina fans to step it up a notch or two or three in honor of our advancement and wonderful invitation to join The American. We are thrilled with the prospect of not just some new rivals but also renewing old ones. Cincinnati has done a great job in football with the Big East opportunity, and we hope we can do equally as well with ours in the AAC. And the day we get our first ever basketball victory over your Bearcats will be the day that ECU knows it has truly arrived. I will not speculate when that will be :).
As someone else replied, we consider our passion rooted more from our history that from our geography. We have had to fight fierce political battles to first establish in 1907 the second teachers college in North Carolina (there was already one in Greensboro-who needs another?), to become East Carolina College, to become East Carolina University (to prevent ECU from becoming the third state university in North Carolina, we were permitted university status only with a broad reorganization of the entire state higher education system which included designating about 10 other state colleges to be universities as well), to be permited to play UNC-CH and NC State in football, to establish a medical school (there already is one in Chapel Hill-who needs another?), to establish a dental school (there already is one in Chapel Hill-who needs another?), etc. So, if it is important and within our mission, we kind of thrive on being told no.
I enjoyed my one trip to Cincinnati for a C-USA basketball tournament many years back, and look forward to returning for a football game. Can't make this years Thursday night game, but will target 2016 in Nippert....hopefully on a Saturday.
We will look forward to welcoming you to Greenville, and again thanks for your friendly words upon our admission to The American.
