I hate the fact that we are supposedly now a "mid-major". Nice article from a guy who went to Sycamore High School, no less.

The only pertinent quote in the article:
"In other words, all of the stars would have to align. A mid-major qualifying for the coming four-team playoff would only happen in an extremely rare scenario, much like Wichita State securing a No. 1 seed in the tournament. "

In other words... It. Will. NEVER. Happen.

Notice the other thing: Mandel picked TCU to be the outsider crashing the BCS-CG in 2010... NOT UC.

Stewie is one of those guys that thought UC was a joke of a university. He went to Northwestern in the mid 90's. He still views UC as a second class citizen. Took him a long time to vote for UC football in the polls.

He has no idea how rare it might be. TCU, Utah, Boise, Fresno, NIU have all flirted with or have been undefeated. UCF would have been right there if they beat S. Carolina last year, same for Ville if they beat UCF. UC very well could have been in the playoff in 2009.

You could say, in recent history, it would have happened a few times. Bottom line, win them all. ECU, UC, UCF all have strong schedules OOC. 10-11 wins for this group is probably an access bowl. Houston has a easier schedule.

We've got a 10 year time frame to improve that, imo!

It would be very difficult for them to keep an undefeated UCF or UC out this year. The strength of schedule for both teams is adequate, and more importantly both have recent bodies of work that are fairly well-respected.

There is a good chance they would have been had Texas lost. It would have been extremely close.

I thought we ended up jumping TCU in the next poll? I remember going nuts when the clock ran out.

BCS had us in if Texas lost. If there was a playoff both UC and TCU would have been in, if using BCS rankings

Had Texas lost, TCU would have gained computer points because they were behind them in the computers. UC was already ahead of Texas in the computers and would have stayed in the same position in the computer portion of the BCS formula. That extra bit gained by moving from 4 to 3 in the computers for TCU might have been enough to edge them above us in the BCS standings.
