LA - Lafayette took one out of the front yard
Saraland athlete Chris Weaver commits to play QB at Louisiana-Lafayette

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/...cart_river

This will definately increase interest in the SBC in Mobile if he stays and plays for the cajuns. Might be a sell out game when they come to town. All of Saraland might be in ladd stadium rooting for the wrong team. 03-banghead

Its got to be a bit annoying for USA that ASU and ULL have had a ton of success pulling kids out of Mobile.

"A lot of schools were looking at him on defense, but then came in and saw him play quarterback and saw him throw. Louisiana-Lafayette projects him as a guy who can come in and compete for their quarterback spot early."

That is an accurate statement.

It is a verbal for the moment, maybe USA takes a hard look and makes an offer. Then again , he might want to get away from home.

Based on his results, it appears Hud knows how to fill holes on the team. If the coaching staff feels the kid can come in and compete early, then he'll probably be impressive.

Nice get, Louisiana!

Best of luck to the young man. If USA wasn't so loaded at QB he might have had a chance to stay closer to home.

I know USA fans feel like Brandon Bridge is the second coming but who are the other extremely talented QBs johnny is referring to?

Old news, if you are a Cajun Redzone member. According to their reports, Weaver attended the UL New Orleans Camp and blew them away running a 4.6 forty and was the best 2015 QB prospect at that camp.

The aren't loaded at LB in the 2015 Class, he didn't want to play defense. Right now, he is more athlete than QB.

He will be a QB...throws the ball very well with good arm strength and a good motion

This commit won't make our game next year a sell out. And it won't make them cheer for Louisiana Lafayette.

Of course not next year. He will still be in High School. I meant two or four years from now.

Not next year. Not two years from now. Not three years from now. Not four years from now. Not five years from now.

It's not like USA lost a recruiting battle here. The Jags didn't offer him and obviously they evaluated him differently than ULL. I don't see any reason to predict gloom and doom.

Kind of surprised a QB offer with such little passing in actual games shown.
Five throws last year.
He must have really impressed them at camp.

In addition to Bridge (who is helping at the Manning Passing Camp again this summer), there is:
Matt Floyd - Just transferred in from USF. A highly-recruited player who ran the spread in high school. He was miscast in Willie Taggert's offense and left after winning the starting job in the preseason but having a terrible game against McNeese State. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Trey Fetner - Has been the wildcat QB the last couple of years but actually throws it pretty well. Currently the #2.
Grant Powell - Maybe the best pure passer, but needs to execute the offense better.
Dallas Davis - A freshman they think very highly of.
Hunter Vaughn - Interesting local kid. Graduated high school early to join Savannah State and was challenging for the starting QB job that first spring but decided it wasn't for him. Transferred to Butler CC where he threw for almost 2,000 yards and 18 TDs last year. He wanted to get back home, so he walked on at USA this summer. His physical skills have impressed the coaches.

Weaver works out with QB Country, a Mobile-based quarterback training group. I'm sure he's been given some quality instruction since last fall and has developed considerably.

If he doesn't work out at QB, sounds like the kind of kid that will find his way on the field.
