OT: Virginia Beach area fishing info
Making my first trip to VB this weekend for a short vacation/fishing trip. I was hoping I could get some advice, tips, recommendations for piers and charters in the area.

Which pier has the best fishing- Sea Gull, Lynnhaven, Virginia Beach or Sandbridge?

Any other info would be great! Thanks.

Good reference.

I've never caught a damn thing at the Sand Bridge pier but croaker.

Unless you charter a boat for cobia or flounder, I would only expect small stuff. Mostly croakers. Ocean View and Lynnhaven piers are on the south coast of the bay and are nice. Seagull is OK too. It's out on the CBBT. Just never had great luck there.

You might get some shark or drum at Sandbridge. The odds of getting something big are better there, but so are the odds of getting skunked at this time of year.

What area are you staying in?
The Lynhaven pier is great. It is at the mouth of the Chesp Bay so you get a large variety of fish.
Sandbridge is pretty far South and out of the way. Unless you are staying out there.
Good luck

Agree with the above selection of Lynhaven. Sadly I don't know any recommendations on charters, only ever chartered out of Oregon Inlet, and/or fish in the rivers/islands with friends on their boats.

What are you looking to catch?

There are 1/2 day charters that go out of Lynnhaven into the Bay two times per day. I have done this before and had fun. Didn't catch much, but the captain does try to get the boat into areas where the fish are biting...

Whatever is biting... 03-drunk

I'll be with my Dad so mostly pier fishing. Not really interested in deep sea fishing but might consider something in-shore. Any off the beaten path areas around Rudee Inlet that are accessible without a boat?

You can fish from the rocks for free at Rudie Inlet, do about as good as any pier, plus the scenery is better.

I another trick is hang out at the boat ramps Owl's Creek or Crab Creek and look for a boat going out fishing that are short handed and see if they would like someone to share the gas and ice expenses. I've used this trick many times from NY to the Fla Keys. Works 90% of the time and have meet some great people. I might have my boat out this weekend. What days are you here and work area you staying.

Also there is a website call Tidalfish.com and people are looking for Ho's and to Ho on there all the time. Ho'n is catching a ride and to share in the work and expenses, good chance to hook up with solid fisherman. Now get your mind out of the gutter and get back to work.

Thanks for the info. I'll be there Fri through Monday, staying near the VB pier.

The vacation half of the vacation/fishing trip will keep us from really having a set day or time to try and get out to fish. We'll basically have to try to get a line out whenever we can. Our schedule will be tight.

I would assume early morning would be the best time to be at the boat ramps checking for departing boats? If we're lucky we might be able to get away long enough to hop a half day in-shore trip or something like that.

Would we need to purchase VA saltwater licenses to do that? I assume so.

The Rudie Inlet Rocks are great for a quick trip. Remember RI rocks need license, charter boat and public pier you don't, private boats may or may not. Most boats like myself buy a license for the boat and it covers everybody...even someone lost from WV.

Thanks for all the info! Had success at both the VA Beach Pier and at the Sandbridge pier. It was my first time to the area and I enjoyed it. Hope to get back for the ODU game.
