MyBB Which Newcomer will be the most important???
I am going with Farad Cobb, he reminds me a lot of Ryan Boatright at UConn. What say you???

EDIT: Here are you choices--

JUCO: Cobb, Ellis, DeBerry
RS FR: Strickland, Morman
True FR: Clark, Moore

DeBerry. From the sounds of things, he definitely knows what a finish is.

Cobb is right there, too.

Octavius, he'll do a lot of justin jackson things that I don't see a lot on the rest of the roster... Rebound out of his area, be able to guard 3-4 positions, defend ball screens at an elite level for a big, be bouncy on his 2nd jump and most importantly protect the rim

Ellis in the frontcourt and Cobb in the backcourt should see the most playing time.

Since you didn't state this was strictly reserved for the basketball team only, I will expand this for football as well.

The very simple and obvious choice for the most important newcomer to the UC football team is Gunner Kiel, assuming he wins the QB battle.

Actually Nacho, he had a basketball placed before his post, so it was rather intuitive. Nice try though.

Hmm, I hadn't noticed the basketball either until you pointed it out.

I think it's gotta be one or two of the inside guys. We need a couple of them to step up in a big way. Which ones seem less important to me.

Good point Mark, all 5 interior players will be new. I think we might actually see some Sanders at the 4 spot early in the year as the new guys come along. Eventually I believe Ellis will supplant him in that spot.

I think how Mick handles the mix of size and guard play will be more interesting to me.

For various reasons, until this group there hasn't been a deep group of 6-7 and above guys.

It will be interesting to see this group jell.

The question being which newcomer will be the most "important", I have no idea. But, I believe the best of the newcomers by far will be Gary Clark who I believe will be getting major minutes by midway through the season.

Clark and Moore are he most important in my opinion because they are potential building blocks. I'm most excited to see morman. I loved watching his highlights.

I personally don't expect much from Moore this season. Seems like a good redshirt candidate to me.

Interesting prediction. I see him having a similar role to Justin Jackson his freshman year. We need him for energy plays, shot blocks, put backs and fouls.

I think DeBerry ends up starting with Ellis, Sanders and Strickland getting the bulk of the front court minutes.

We are a bit weak at the wing, especially if Sanders slides to the 4. I think we'll see a lot of three guard looks with Morman as the "3" when Shaq needs a rest.

Overall should be an exciting season with a lot of growing parts! 04-cheers

If I had to guess I'd say Octavius Ellis. I think he's ready to play at the D 1 level. I see a starting five of DeBerry, Ellis, Shaq, KJ and Guyn. Caupain and Sanders first off the bench. I think Cobb and Morman will really contribute. Don't know what to expect out of Strickland, Moore, or Clark. I see somebody in that group redshirting. Does Strickland have only 4 years left? If so, i would think Clark or Moore redshirts.

I think by the time the season ends Clark will be the man....

I also expect Deberry and Ellis to really contribute this year.

Bearcat Steve will be the surprise newcomer of the year. He will go on to be the only 4 time national player of the year in college hoops.

Then he wakes up and realizes that he can't fulfill the role of equipment manager.

At this point I'd be shocked if Sanders doesn't start at the four.

As to the topic at hand, I'll go with DeBerry...

Kind of like going to the Sweet 16 in 2012 with a small ball starting lineup of Wright, Dixon, Kilpatrick, Parker and Gates? Parker playing the undersized 4 did cause plenty of matchup problems and Parker was a warrior that year rebounding. Mick does play his upperclassmen pretty heavily, especially those that have bought in to the defensive side of things.

PG - Troy Caupain
SG - Ge'Lawn Guyn
SF - Shaq Thomas
PF - Jermaine Sanders
C - Coreontae DeBerry

- Kevin Johnson, Farad Cobb and Octavius Ellis taking the bulk of the bench minutes

What's your feeling on the starting pg spot? I'm really hoping to see Troy in that roll.
