Exactly. The SEC can pick and chose pretty much any school they want. Look how easy A&M and Mizzou went.

If the SEC offers to any school just about any school would go. UC is so far down on their list it isn't funny.

Please stop the UC to the SEC talk. It will happen when pigs fly.

How do you know this "If the SEC offers any school would go." Most if not all schools in the P5 are happy with their affiliation. All schools in the P5 make 20 million plus and the SEC does not offer more. At the time of the last shuffle, TAM, Colorado, Nebraska, and Missouri left because of current conference instability caused by Texas. The future of their conference was very uncertain. Is there a possibility fo the scenario to repeat. Yes, although highly unlikely.

No one knows how the future events will unfold. Just as we found ourselves in the Big East, we could wind up in about any conference. Sec maybe pie in the sky, but after the next shakeup I be we are not on the outside.

Hey Cali... you've managed to piss a lot of people here off in a very short time. How about giving it a rest, or one of us just might help you along to that end.

Finally a good post from a fellow UC fan!!! 04-cheers

you might get more good posts if you would stop ripping on UC and saying things like our facilities are sub par in the main board...just sayin'

I think this is a silent majority situation. I think most people realize there is zero chance that uc gets into the sec. Is there some logic for it to happen? Sure, but that is only if you leave out the only determining factor: money. Uc does not have it. Tradition, recruiting area, tv market, academics, geography do not matter. Money matters and they have very little of it.

As one of the board's apparent co-experts (along with Cali_Cat) on this matter, you'll have to explain this to me. As I understand it, sure it's about money, but it's not about how much you bring that you already have. You don't share your current wealth, it's about how much you can help the rest of the conference earn. There might be an entrance fee of some sort but the conference will finance that if you are helping them earn money.

A conference is like a business. A company (or conference) adds employees (or universities) to help them make more than they would without adding that person (or university). But the conference/company doesn't get a portion of the person/University's current wealth. So a conference isn't looking to simply add the richest university to their organization any more than a company simply looks to hire the richest person. It's all about how much they can help you earn together going forward. That means media contracts, post-season revenue, location (travel costs and time for all programs, etc.), attendance appeal, and the associated benefits that come from enhancing visibilty especially in a new market, etc.

I don't know why I always have to say this but I will again. I dont consider myself an expert on realignment, recruiting, politics etc, nor do I claim to be. I am a person posting my opinions on an Internet message board. I don't believe one needs to be an "expert" to offer opinions on an Internet message board and get involved in good discussion.

I think your analogy is off. If the situation must be compared to a free market business type situation I think a better comparison would be larger companies acquiring smaller companies. In which case the larger company is always going to go with the more profitable company.

When you speak in absolutes ("zero chance") about future unknown (unknowable?) events and frame your opinions as facts ("Tradition, recruiting area, tv market, academics, geography do not matter."), you certainly give the impression that you consider yourself an expert, no? Although in fairness I'll concede that there may be some guilt by association towards you in this thread.

But my primary point was questioning the logic/reasoning behind your boldly stated opinion - not your right to have it. And I'm afraid I also find your supposedly superior analogy to be very much lacking. Can you explain it further including exactly how and why it is more appropos than my take above? In your scenario the acquired company is fully owned and thus all of its profits do become your profits (not to mention the fact that that there is an acquisition fee you pay - typically to a 3rd party - and that amount factors in profitability and assets). Furthermore, the acquired company can be sold to another party at will - The Big 10 can't sell Rutgers to the SEC. They don't own them. Universities aren't owned by their conference, they are members/partners. UC's overall wealth, however high or low, doesn't become the SEC's. The issue is about how much money (via all sources) UC or any other candidate for expansion can add to the members after factoring in the cost of their membership (i.e. their share of the presumably larger pie). So basically, this corporate acquisition analogy is nothing like adding a new conference member as I understand it.

i think they just met with Comcast, trying to iron out details for carrying the SEC network, which is set to launch in August. Obviously, all caveats apply, but if the blog post holds true than realignment might not be so dead.

I don't really care abou whose analogy is better.

Yes I will speak in absolutes in some cases that are just obvious to anyone not looking at the world through uc colored glasses. Uc will never be in the sec just like there is not a snowballs chance in hell Alabama plays uc at nippert stadium. This is the reality of college sports.

If you had to put a percent chance on uc ending up in the sec what would it be?

RE: If the SEC did expand again...
Have to join those who disagree with the earlier assertions that university "wealth" or "profitability" are deciding factors in realignment. Case in point, Maryland. I don't think they're in the B10 because their athletic department was bringing in cash in Brink's trucks. Weren't they awash in red ink? The B10 simply wanted that TV market in their footprint.

None of us know if the SEC will use the same criteria as the B10 but it's reasonable to believe that enhanced TV revenue will trump most other factors that fans rant about on message boards.

RE: If the SEC did expand again...
Maryland and Rutgers can easily get out of their financial holes over time when they start seeing the checks the Big Ten gives out on a annual basis. The same applies to schools who have joined or will join the Pac-12 and SEC in the future. The short-term doesn't matter, it's the long-term conferences are focused on.

RE: If the SEC did expand again...
IMO U of Cincinnati is a logical expansion option for either the ACC or Big XII. UC wouldn't be a terrible add for the SEC, but the problem there is IF the SEC expands again it's likely going to be an already-established P5 team (think ACC or Big XII) rather than a G5 call-up situation.

If the ACC needed another team (be it to replace one or to expand again) I think Cincinnati would be at the top of every short list; you'd have to mess up big time not to get the invite!

Just so we are clear, no one here has argued recently or since the chinese fire drill for the SEC to draft us. We merely were responding to a discussion link in the first post of this thread.

Good post. It always nice to see fans from other schools offer their opinion regarding UC without name calling, trolling, or cheerleading.

I tend to believe the two Oklahoma schools would be perfect for the SEC. The current Big XII seems like the old Big East. Riding the power conference wave until it crashes leaving everyone on their own.

I agree on the ACC, there is a chance in about a decade or so. There is no chance at the Big 12 for ANY AAC school....07-coffee3

I think there will be more movement before that. 10 years is a very long time for nothing to happen--- the world is too impatient, technology is continually expanding and new markets are being created.

Btw I am working at my company's Santa Monica office this week. Question: What is the best way to get to Redondo Beach and how long would it take for me to get there? Any places you recommend I hit up?

Go south on Lincoln/Sepulveda Blvd (CA Route 1). There will be plenty of traffic lights, and I'd say around 1/2 hour is probably reasonable, more in rush hour.

You can try 10 to the 405 to Rosecrans to Aviation, but I cannot guarantee success, EVER, where the 405 is involved. If you are off of rush hour, you are probably OK.

If you've got a car, you can easily get on the 10 to the 405. It should be about 15-20 miles which can take around an hour or so in traffic. That is probably your best bet.

Like BJUnklFk, you can also go down Lincoln to Sepulveda Blvd...I believe the Big Blue Bus 3 line will take you down there (if for some reason you don't have a car) but that will easily take an hour and a half by bus and around 30-40 minutes by car (assuming no traffic).

Depends on the time of day you're traveling... what can be a 20 minute commute can easily turn into an hour or more.

I'd recommend the Saddle Ranch Chop House, especially if you are there for Sunday Brunch.
