Old Dominion senior Antonio Vaughan and UAB senior Jamarcus Nelson have been named to the preseason watch list for the 2014 Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, the award committee announced on Monday.

Nelson, who hails from Midfield, Ala., has averaged 20 yards per reception on 81 catches during his Blazer career. He ranks No. 6 all-time at UAB in receiving yards (1,618) and is No. 13 in career receptions. Of Nelson's 19 career touchdowns, 12 have been by more than 40 yards. Despite missing two games with an injury, he grabbed a team-high 42 catches last season for 846 yards and eight touchdowns. Nelson tied for the Conference USA lead as he registered four 100-yard receiving games and caught a career-high 10 passes in the opener at Troy.

He returned a kickoff for a touchdown (97 yards vs. Troy), a punt for a touchdown (63 vs. Northwestern State) and averaged 22.7 yards per kick return to rank sixth in C-USA. Nelson had 367 all-purpose yards (highest total in NCAA) for week one in contest at Troy and also had 303 all-purpose yards in season finale vs. Southern Miss. Those two all-purpose performances were top two efforts in C-USA last fall.

Nelson has NFL potential. I see him kind of like Tavon Austin with the Rams. He just needs to fix the dropped passes, which I'm sure he will.

I see him as more of a DeSean Jackson minus the negatives. Same build and speed...
