OT: USA Lacrosse / Lacrosse World Championships
I'm sure most of you havent heard, but starting this Thursday is the Lacrosse World Championships. Some of you have children whom play, some of you may have no knowledge of the sport. Thats okay, what better time to learn about the fastest growing sport in America than now with a team we can all root for! I encourage everyone to tune in this Thursday and support Team USA against rival Canada in the opening round at 9:00 PM on ESPN2.

USA and Canada are far and away the two most talented teams, with players who are currently in the MLL and most if not all played major division 1 college ball. Here is a video introducing you to Team USA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_tMy0obtiE

Its a fast paced game and these matchups are gonna be some the best lacrosse you can watch outside of D1 college (I'm just not a fan of the MLL until Cincy gets a team, its hard for me to root for other cities. Plus that stupid 2 point line in the MLL is a joke, BUT I DIGRESS. Also college lax has just a better atmosphere than the MLL, for now).

So if you wanna see top notch lacrosse with two of the most talent laden rosters in the world, and maybe you have some patriotism leftover from the World Cup and the Fourth of July, tune in Thursday at 9pm on ESPN2 for USA vs Canada. Here is the full schedule: http://www.uslacrosse.org/multimedia-cen...edule.aspx

I hope you all give the sport a chance, and lets all root the United States on to a World Championship!

*Yes, I'm aware there is an Off Topic Board, but that place looked dead and I'm trying to get the word out there. Move it if you wish, however.

I saw the advert for this on ESPN and I checked out the website. Having played in high school and the club level in college, I still like watching the game from time to time. Outside of the US, Canada and the Iroquois are there any teams that are actually any good?

The Iroquois team is the darkhorse to win it.

RE: OT: USA Lacrosse / Lacrosse World Championships
Posted this on BCSNN with the old ESPN Big East blogging community, and wanted to give you all an update too, but since I'm not about to type a CSNbbs specific update, here is my post copy and pasted from over there:

Been camping in Columbus all weekend (I and everyone in my group wore at least 1 UC clothing item each day, the sheer number of dirty looks we got was glorious!). Catching up on all the lacrosse action I missed.

* So far the US is tearing through the competition, leading up to what is going to be a hell of a matchup with the Iroquois. Also, the first African nation to compete in the Lacrosse World Championships,Uganda, is doing really well for their first time competing in the games. Its a really great story and if I can find a good article on it I'll share with you all. A freaking African nation is competing, and holding its ground in lacrosse. I honestly felt like something like this would take decades. Truly remarkable, and a glowing testament to the growth of lacrosse.

* I saw earlier in the week that due to the growth, and the number of nations competing in the world games, lacrosse has a legitimate shot of being an Olympic sport in 2024. I know a lot of you probably dont find that all that fascinating or significant, but damn, that is just the coolest thing I've ever heard. Lacrosse players walking out during Olympic opening ceremonies... shivers.

* As an aside, before Canada and the Iroquois Nation face off here in just a few minutes live on ESPNU, I'm watching an MLS soccer match in a packed NFL stadium on ESPN2. 60k people watching a regional rivalry between Portland and Seattle. I F*CKING LOVE IT! A lot of older fashioned, close minded Americans think they can simply "hate away" soccer, but its not going anywhere and its just going to keep gradually growing. I'm well aware that this 60k fan soccer match is an outlier, and wont become the new average, but 15 or maybe even 10 years ago you wouldn't see an NFL stadium packed to the brim for a domestic league match. The growth of these not so traditionally "important" sports is something that just has me giddy. Yes, I said "giddy".
