2014 Bearcats Football Season Expectations
I know we’re still a few months away from the season opener against Toledo but I’m getting pumped for the upcoming football season. A lot has been discussed on this board during the off-season regarding the Cats’ conference, schedule, recruits, potential bowls, returning roster, playing in PBS, etc. My initial reaction is the Cats go 10-2 with one loss in the conference and one loss non-conference. Yes, I believe they steal one on the road vs. either OSU or Miami, FL. This puts them in the position for an access bowl. I have a ton of faith in CTT and the offense will again score points this year but the defense will be better than expected. I envision a more consistent running game that compliments Gunner’s top notch passing ability. With all due respect to those that came before him, Gunner will show what a top flight QB can do for the Cats. What do you feel are the expectations and issues for the upcoming football season?

I feel like they will be pretty darn good. But I have some reservations about the defensive line and the qb position. If everyone plays to potential I can see your 10-2 or 9-3 season.

qb
d-line

if both are half way decent we will win 8-10 games

if one or both suck we will struggle

Right now I am 9-3, 7-1 Conference Co-Champion. If UC gets solid O-line and QB play that could run the table in the league. I can't see UC winning at Ohio State and I believe Toledo and Miami FL will both be close games decided in the final quarter.

Expecting 5 to 7 wins and a good way to waste time until the real UC sport starts up in November. Can't wait...04-cheers

If the team only wins 5 to 7 games this season, something went really wrong. The conference schedule is about as easy as it gets, no UCF, Houston and ECU at home.

The team was pretty average last year, they just had an amazingly easy schedule. Playing OSU, Miami, Toledo, ECU, Houston, etc are all easily toss ups at best. Doesn't matter much anyways (at least after November when basketball starts) to me...04-cheers

RE: 2014 Bearcats Football Season Expectations
My bias says that the Osu game wont be a blowout, but I would be making a mockery of this thread if I were to make a pick in favor of the good guys. That being said, I think the team will once again be formidable. The question for me is not whether or not we can win 9 games and make it to some mid level bowl - Im not satisfied with that. I truly want to know if Tuberville can bring us back to the level that we were during the Orange Bowl season which, given the current situation, seems within reach. For us to get to an access bowl, I would assume a 10-2 record is a must. I think we will beat Miami (Fl) and stumble along the way to a team similar to last year's USF. Looking at the G5 landscape, I think that would be enough to land us in the access bowls.

While I love making predictions like this, I will immeaditly change them the second I see Gunner play. There are variables every year regarding a team's performance, but his presence provides so much uncertainty for the fan base. I believe he will be a stud. Lets hope im right.

I still laugh when I think about opening the season with a two week bye.

I expect 10-2. If we lose an AAC game I will be very disappointed. Braxton Miller is back so I hope we can keep it close against OSU. Miami, FL could go either way.

Agree on paper that the more winnable P5 road game is against Miami, FL. The last time THE osu lost to an Ohio team was the 1921 Oberlin College squad. What does that mean? Only that its been a hell of a long time since anyone from Ohio has beaten the bucks but you can't change history unless you first have an opportunity to do so.

I think the ball will bounce in UC's favor this season.. I am with the OP in forecasting 9-10 wins.

you realize that our bball team will be young, no clear leader/go to guy and 20+ wins, while not unthinkable isn't going to come easy right?

Best thing that could ever happen to UC football is to win @ Ohio State.

Next best would be for Va Tech to [also] beat the Buckeyes.

Fantasy: Ohio State goes 5-7 while UC goes 12-0.

It will be a fun season, trust me. There is going to be a lot of room to grow as the year progresses and as players evolve into their roles. Those types (like '10-'11) are the most satisfying to me...04-cheers

RE: 2014 Bearcats Football Season Expectations
We start the season with twovery winnable games (even though Toledo will test us). By the time we play ECU and Houston, the team should be playing at it's peak.

UC was 6-2 in conference play last year - I expect 8-0 this year. OOC was 3-1 last year - I expect the same this year, giving an overall record of 11-1.

That should win the AAC and garner an Access Bowl bid.

With all the money we're spending on CTT, his staff, the returning starters and Kiel's ability, I expect no less. We have all the parts in place to have an 11-1 season and win the AAC annually. The 2015 recruiting class is the best ever and we will dominate this conference and continue to raise the level of play.

Can someone who follows recruiting more closely verify this statement? I'm not calling you out on this. I'm just curious. I haven't seen a single "wow" recruit and all I see is a bunch of 2 and 3 star kids.

The three main scouting services has this class ranked pretty high. 247 ranks it at #37, Rivals at #38 and Scout has us at #48. By comparison we have historically slotted in the mid to late 50's-70 range the past decade.

There are several recruits we have that are legit--- you can't look at stars you need to look at their measurables. Ross Trail is an Elite 11 QB. Antonio Howard runs a 4.3 40 and is desired by a ton of big schools-- despite only being a two star recruit. There are several other recruits I am really excited about because of their size and speed.

Ok, so let's say those 5 are tossups. That means you're predicting us to lose all 5 tossups and possibly 2 more on top of it? I would say the odds are against that, but it has happened once recently so who knows.

RE: 2014 Bearcats Football Season Expectations
I think this season is going to be pretty good. I really how the defense is going to look. We should be fine at DT.
The depth at DE (last year we were green here the entire 2 deep had never started) LB, and CB safety is really good.
The offense should score plenty enough. What I saw at the spring game is promising, more speed at multiple position groups. If anyone tries to double McKay big mistake, too many good WRs and slot guys.

The schedule has some challenges. Would have liked to have seen one of OSU or Hurricanes at home. The only good thing about the schedule is that we have a bye after the Tulane game in new orleans, then we host ECU. Then @Uconn @Temple,
finish @home against Houston. Should be nice and cold for Houston. Probably 9 wins. 10 would be great. Houston, Memphis and Temple should all be better then they were last year.
