Parade All-American on Troy Roster
A few weeks back an Arkansas State fan mentioned they had one of these. I never understood what the big deal is. Anyways, Troy added one on defense at the nickel position (hybrid linebacker/safety in a 4-2-5 defense). His name is TJ Fuller. He led all Butler CC DBs last season in tackles and the team only gave up 11.2 points per game. He was a 3-Star player out of high school with offers from Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Connecticut, South Alabama, and 10 or so others. Not great offers, but decent ones for sure. I would like to know more about what exactly a Parade All-American is and why it's a big deal. Do any other SBC teams a Parade All-American on their roster?

The Parade selection from Arkansas State is their QB. I believe he played 4A football (7A is the highest classification) in high school and may have been why he wasn't heavily recruited. I believe he had 67 TDs and only 4 INTs or something similar. Very good stats no matter what classification you play in. He'll be one to watch this year.

Yeah, Fredi Knighten was our Parade All American. He wasn't highly recruited because most teams didn't profile him as a QB. They saw him as an athlete. He played for Pulaski Academy, which may be 4A in Arkansas, but is probably the most famous school in the state. They are the ones who made national news a few years back because their coach refuses to punt, using a ton of statistics that show that the chances the opposing team scores their next possession is about the same as it is if you would go for it. He also tries an onside kick on every kickoff and goes for 2 after every TD using similar statistics.

I believe it was the year after Knighten left they went on the road to play one of the largest 7A schools on the state, and scored 29 straight points before the other team had a single play from scrimmage.

That offense is so ridiculous that its hard not to score. No huddle, hurry up, run and gun.

You've probably heard of a McDonald's All-American in basketball. Parade is a much older, but similar deal.

The reason it is special is because there are so many high school football teams in the nation. To be on any All American team is a great honor, because it indicates that a player performed better at his position than so many other players.

Doesn't necessarily mean it translates to college football - but you make that list and you were a hell of a high school football player.

Difference between Parade and Recruiting services is Parade identifies the best players, and ignores the height, weight, etc... Recruiting Services are tasked to identify how good they will be in college.

Here is the 2012 team: http://parade.condenast.com/89989/brianm...ball-team/

Jameis Winston and Maty Mauk (SEC All-Freshman Team QB) were QBs along with a guy who went to South Carolina and one who went to Kentucky along with Kinghten on the 2012 Parade All America team. Good company. Knighten was the only QB that didn't go P5.

Tajarvis "TJ" Fuller was a LB on that team...initially signed with the Illini.

Knights is who Todd a Berry studied and met with. We use a very modified version of that philosophy and that is why ULM goes for it on fourth down a lot. Had a lot to do with why we beat Arkansas, almost beat Baylor, and had a Auburn in OT.
