June's full time jobs plunge, part time jobs surge
We've been so occupied with Obama's scandals that we forgot about the damage Obamacare is doing to the job market. And Obama says things are better now than before he took office.

Quote:Is this the reason for the blowout, on the surface, payroll number? In June the BLS reports that the number of full-time jobs tumbled by 523K to 118.2 million while part-time jobs soared by 799K to over 28 million!

Looking at the breakdown of full and part-time jobs so far in 2014, we find that 926K full-time jobs were added to the US economy. The offset: 646K part-time jobs.

Something tells us that the fact that the BLS just reported June part-time jobs rose by just shy of 800,000 the biggest monthly jump since 1993, will hardly get much airplay today. Because remember: when it comes to jobs, it is only the quantity that matters, never the quality.

... just in case there is any confusion why there is zero real wage growth (for two months in a row now), and why it will take a few more months before experts start tossing the word stagflation a little more casually.

My daughter got a part time job in June. There are a bunch of white girls working out front but she said all the cooks and dishwashers are Asian or Hispanic. Should I get her to do an undercover investigation? Wait, no that might get her fired and I really need her to have a job, college costs and all its tough.04-rock

doesn't have to be one or the other. Nothing contradictory about either. annual, predictable increase in part time summer jobs combined with real growth in FT jobs.

Wasn't growth in full time jobs, there was a drop. A big one.

Teens Are Having a Hard Time Getting Summer Jobs

And, since working in the summer can predict future job prospects, that matters.

In light of a report from Bloomberg yesterday that drew attention to the remarkably generous wages picked up by the tech industry’s young summer interns—their monthly salaries can exceed the 2012 average for U.S. households by nearly $2,000—it’d be easy to make the mistake of thinking that the youth these days have it easy.

But today, Erin McCarthy of the Wall Street Journal posted about a discouraging report put out by Challenger, Gray & Christmas on teens’ summer employment: Hires of 16- to 19-year-olds in May and June dropped 12 percent in comparison to last year. The teen unemployment rate has been in decline in the past year, but this, according to the report, has mainly to do with teens who have dropped out of the job search in favor of less aggravating pursuits, like volunteer work, sports, and, presumably, hanging out.

RE: June's full time jobs plunge, part time jobs surge
When the real unemployment is very high (like it is), and companies are forced to pay very high minimum wages for entry level jobs, companies are able to hire older more reliable workers for those jobs.

When Obamacare forces companies to keep the number of full time workers down, people get hired in at 30 hours per week part time.

This is why you have part time jobs surging, full time jobs dropping like a rock, and less teenagers working.
