I saw this yesterday about possible renovations for Student Center and Neptune.

Those were part of the 5 year play announced in the very beginning of this year.

We had enough extra beds to demo Douglas and still be able to renovate Neptune.

Does anyone know if Grant Central is actually getting gutted or not? The plan was for it to be but I thought I got the impression that they are holding off so they can spend the money on Neptune and HCS instead.

I heard they did not have enough beds in the beginning of the semester. I heard there were some students staying in lounges and in the hotel. It would be nice if they renovated the rest of Grant to make the whole building nice.

That is really surprising. They had over 2700 empty beds last year. Removing Douglas is -1000 and Grant South is -1000.

At least the two wings of Lincoln closest to Annie Glidden are not in use either.

Lincoln is completely closed.

Ah, that would be why there were kids in HCS.

A renovation of Neptune North like Gilbert would do the campus the best overall.

I wonder what President Baker thinks of the New Hall...if it is worth doing again or loses too much money for the school.

Would love to see a peaked roof put on the Neptune halls. Would not cost all that much, would match the classic architecture of the older halls. Also the 60'2 fiberglass panels could be inexpensively replaced with the classic patterned tin panels.

I recall my Freshman year (2005), that every dorm was filled and people were staying in the student center. The enrollment was over 25,000 that year.

RE: Douglas ??????
We had a most "interesting" group of guys when I was in Douglas in the Fall of 1973. Back then, there were no co-ed floors or wings. However, we were on the bottom floor in B wing - a girls wing, because we all applied late and they had nowhere else to put us. That year was wonderful and quite "interesting". Talk about being in a state of "readiness" for no more than 4 hours? How about 4 months!! Such a great "experience"! Loved the times I went into the shower and was greeted by a friendly young lady!

I agree if they could make Neptune look like Gilbert it make it a lot more attractive. Neptune is in a great location for a dorm but the fact that it does not have the amenities like Grant and Stevenson turns away people.
