Today's Young Adults
Can you think of a time in this "modern era" when the youth of America was so disinterested/uneducated in our government?

Many think they are. The overly simplistic things they learned as kids have to be untaught.

My oldest voted in her first primary last month and will in her first general election in November. She was arguing candidates with me.

I know that's anecdotal, but still.

At an early age, schools are teaching our kids that government is the solution to all problems. So young people just think that letting the government run in the background without anyone actually looking at what it is doing is a good thing.

Maybe so, and wonder if they had visions of ever being responsible for their own gov't, i.e. never had an "interest" to lose....Maybe they were raised to "not-give-a-sh!t" and feel they have no sense of responsibility for governing themselves

I think the partisan rhetoric and pathetic state of the media feeds into that.

The quality of the educations many have gotten in their K/12 years is so poor that it's done serious damage.

Many aren't prepared or capable of being productive citizens. It's a real shame.

Worse than a shame................Education is at the very top of the list for the young to be healthy adults calling our shots (and their own) in the near future

It's not just the mainstream media...you have to look at the psuedo media as well. Think all of the "talk" shows...Oprah, Dr. Phill, Tonight Show, John Stewart, etc.

Then throw in the online medie...ie blogs and everything else. There are no journalists anymore just people spouting the news/life/gossip according to themselves.

Our society is scary stupid.

Maybe we can all chip in and buy stinkfist a new keyboard where the punctuation keys don't stick and cover words/phrases that would make his posts understandable.
