Animals are not equipped to routinely handle that amount of noise and commotion, it triggers the flight response.
I'm no PETA guy, I just hate seeing animals subjected to stuff like that unnecessarily.
Yeah it's unfortunate, but thankfully Steve has done an incredible job over the years training our birds. Freedom (the one who does all of our game day stuff) is a rescue bird. He's got a crooked beak and cant eat like a normal Eagle. If our Rapture center didn't take him in and take care of him he would have starved to death years ago.
That was a pretty cool video though. "Together We Rise" kinda sounds like a gospel track.

I know... But Texas State doesn't have one! And Troy, the Cajuns, App State, NMSU, and Idaho don't count (UTA & UALR either).
But it's not a knock on Georgia Southern... I just don't like it.
Can you really tame a bobcat?
stAte doesn't have one...but that's probably more because Red Wolves are an endangered species.
I double checked my own facts. There are between 90-110 Red Wolves living in the Wild today. (Mostly in North Carolina) with 200 more living in captivity. There were 9 confirmed shootings of Red Wolves last year, and the government is having to kill coyotes to keep them from cross breeding with the Red Wolf.

Freedom was injured as a hatchling and raised by humans due to his injuries. I used to be worried about how he would handle the large crowds, but it doesn't throw him off at all. He's been doing this stuff since he was a chick and seems to think it's normal. Plus Steve Hein is a raptor expert. He goes on falconry hunts on his free time and practically lives in a nest. I have complete faith that he knows how to keep Freedom happy.

That'd get some YouTube hits...plus turn over some PETA tickle-boxes to boot...
Before home games Freedom is released from the perimeter of the stadium and flies to Steve in the center of the field. This with 20,000+ cheering fans. Freedom's fine with it...

That's why we don't have a live mascot. We are afraid he would get mad at all the low-land trespassers and shoot them. Especially if they got too close to his shine jug.
