RE: Happy Independence Day
We have two old cats and I can't stand their peeing and urping up wherever they feel like it.

But my wife loves animals, children, Seniors, and special populations, so getting rid of them would cost me half of everything I own.

With 40 cats I would be up in a bell tower with a high-powered rifle, though.

After hearing that, I'm glad we opted out of family festivities this year...

City sponsored fireworks, okay. I can take 'me or leave 'em, but I understand the entertainment value.

The backyard/amateur neighborhood firecrackers and fireworks that drone on for several consecutive nights, a few of them pushing midnight, gets annoying really fast. [/align]

I would be in jail today, and glad of it.

Just finished week two with the in laws. We rented a place on Crystal Lake near Frankfort. My father in law bitched the whole time because ther was no cable. He sleeps on the couch at home and watches TV 24/7.

We had a nice deck with a great view. Great to cook on and eat on.......he was pissed because he wanted to eat out every night. When we took him out to eat he bitched about the prices even though we paid for every meal. He's grossly overweight and has major blood sugar issues. They had a breakfast buffet at the Cherry Hut, and he complained because we took him there. My wife told him you can just eat the healthy stuff on the buffet......but he lacks any self control and proceeded to the sticky buns, waffles with syrup, and everything else that was loaded with sugar.

I showed him how to get netflix on the TV upstairs, but he didn't want to do it because the bathrooms were downstairs. So I showed him how to do Netflix on the IPad. Every ten minutes he was screwing it up and calling me for help. My daughter learned how to access netflix on her own.......when she was three.

Thanks again for letting me vent.

And Crystal Lake is so cool! Too bad.

RE: Happy Independence Day
We've gone up there for ten years. We had my boat on Crystal until we sold it, but it's not a great boating lake, too choppy. We still use our kayaks on the Platt and Betsie and in Glen Arbor. Each year my wife spends countless hours researching properties. Buela, Empire, Elberta, and Arcadia are emerging markets that could someday be on par with Glen Arbor and Franfort.

She would like me to cash out my 403 next year and buy a place. Part of me would like to do it because being retired I can't contribute to it, so it's only growth comes from interest. I think I could build more equity with real estate, but it doesn't leave me any liquidity. Plus you have maintenance, and the feeling you have to be there to get your money's worth out of it.

As for my father in law, yes he was a pain in the ass. But as I told my daughter my most memorable vacations as a child were the ones that were train wrecks.

Your father in law is a genius. He has you all worrying about his happiness.

Nahhhh. He can't hear a thing, so we basically insult him and he never hears it. We all get a laugh, and he's none the wiser. He's frustrating, but entertaining in weird sort of way. I'd probably have more respect for him if he had Alzheimer's or something.

He'll yell at my daughter from 60 feet away to get him some salt for the rim of his beer glass. My daughter will yell back, "but grandpa it's right next to you!" He's too lazy and fat to get up and get it.

When my wife was in kindergarten he'd have her get beers for him and all of his alc buddies. She'd pour them and suck off the foam. She was getting toasted before she hit first grade.
