Huge Late Pick Up for Apps!
From AppNation 24-7 Site.

After initially signing with Wake Forest in February, in-state wide receiver Jaylan Barbour from Monroe High School (NC) has been released from his NLI to the Demon Deacons and has signed with Appalachian State. A 5-9, 170-pound slot receiver with a long list of offers that included North Carolina, NC State, West Virginia, ECU and Duke, Barbour figures to be a great addition to the Mountaineers' stable of receivers. He carries a 247Sports Composite 3-star (85) rating, good for the #25 overall 2014 prospect in North Carolina. Because he was released from his NLI and never played at Wake Forest, Jaylan will be able to eligible to play immediately in 2014.
The addition of Barbour also moves the Mountaineers into the top spot in the 2014 Sun Belt Class Rankings.

RE: Huge Late Pick Up for Apps!
5 months ago the WR position might have been the weakest on the team, now , atleast on paper, we are loaded, I know it's early, and things happen once you get players on campus, but the coaching staff has done one hell of a job in their first year recruiting in the FBS.

I grew up in the Monroe area. A ton of MHS kids were on that excellent Duke team this past year. I'm not sure where that talent came from. When I was in school MHS was garbage.

That's very nice but if you were USA or UMass, you'd be bragging about picking up a 4 star recruit.

Are you looking for a discussion about football? If so you're bringing g a knife to a gun fight.

Back to the topic at hand. Great late pickup, looking forward to seeing this WR class by 2015 and 2016.

We especially can use a good slot receiver.

See no 4 Star Recruits for UMass last year or this year.
Saw 4 of the 3 Star recruits last year, and 2 2 star recruits for this year so far is all showing.

When did UMass pick up a 4 star? Who?
When?

Yes, we have a good chance in winning. Don't look at the last two years when we were lead by a career assistant coach, who failed at head coach.

He was a 2012 four star recruit.
Officially today.

Monroe head football coach Johnny Sowell played at App from 1981-84.

Well, yes and no. Garrett is listed on Georgia Southern's 2014 commits but he is not rated so only factors in numerically as a 70 (the default low 2-star).

Good looking player either way though. I'm not sure he stays at QB at the next level, especially with GaSo seemingly going away from the triple option, but a very good athlete.

To pick up our highest rated commitment of 2014 this late is pretty spectacular and at a position in big need makes it all the sweeter.

+1. Kid's got a great attitude to go along with the 4.5 jets. Clearly an athlete but interestingly seemed excited about the prospect of playing slot receiver. Lot of buzz about this pickup. Congrats again on the App pickup. Carry on.
