Dontari Poe
From the Chiefs' Training Camp:

Pro Bowl nose tackle Dontari Poe was so valuable to the Kansas City Chiefs last season he rarely came out of the lineup. Pass situation or run, first quarter or fourth, close game or blowout and Poe was on the field for the Chiefs.

Poe
That’s not strange for a linebacker like Derrick Johnson or a defensive back such as Eric Berry. But Poe goes well over 300 pounds and it’s unusual for a player of his size to see so much playing time.

Look for Poe to continue to get plenty of work again this season. The Chiefs failed to add a nose tackle of any quality, leaving them without a viable candidate to take his place, even for a handful of snaps.

“He’s a unique guy,’’ coach Andy Reid said. “You go in and do these conditioning tests and he’s 340 pounds or whatever he is. His body percent fat is zero. He’s goes out and runs these things and is the first guy out front with the big fellas. He’s one of those guys. He’s a unique character.

“To get him off the field you have to pull him off. He’s not one to tap out. That’s not how he goes. You monitor that the best way you can. We didn’t see a decline in his play as the season wore on. There are a handful of teams that do what we do where you play certain guys a high percent of the plays.’’

Those players usually aren’t defensive linemen. So it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Chiefs to search for a nose tackle capable of giving Poe some occasional rest.

RE: Dontari Poe
Andy Reid does not just gush about his players. He is usually tight mouthed or points out some area of their game they can improve in. Poe must be a rare athlete indeed.

340 pounds, 0 % body fat, and plays every down?? Plus this year, the Chiefs plan to run him on the offensive set known as "Poe Heavy"??

Mr. Poe is already set for life with his 1st round contract which I believe is a five year deal. His second contract, when he is 27 years old and a 5 Time Pro Bowl DT (and hopefully Super Bowl champion), will secure the next 10 generations of Poes.

This young man is the real deal.

Plus, he is a good young man. I hope he makes a gazillion dollars.

Not only does he rarely come out of the game on D ... the Chiefs unveiled the "Poe Heavy" short yardage set during mini-camp where he lines up in the backfield as a blocker. No linebacker wants that coming at him, I assure you.

Well, in his defense, he was double and triple teamed all year. Don't care how good you are, it's tough to do anything with all that mass of humanity pushing on you all the time.

One of the greatest student/athlete success stories ever out of the U of M. Mr. Poe's picture hangs on my wall as an inspiration to me every day, and a reminder of what a blessing it was to know him for his four short years on the football team.

He gets double teamed pretty consistency in the NFL.

No one in the league runs the ball against them with out putting 2 blockers on Poe.

And he's still hugely effective in spite of that. Seriously impressive.

Poe is as disruptive as any interior lineman in the game.

If he can stay relatively healthy for at least 5-6 more years, he will be already be a HOF candidate.

He's that good.

Poe is also listed as the 79th best player in entire NFL in this link:

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/pete...-its-close

And linemen are usually under rated.

Really glad he's doing well. I felt like on draft night the pundits crapped on the pick because he's some guy from Memphis they'd never heard of. Maybe it was justified but it was still annoying. Keep it up!
