UC basketball announces non-conference schedule
The 13-game nonconference slate is highlighted with home contests at Fifth Third Arena against four NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including North Carolina Central (Nov. 25), San Diego State (Dec. 17), VCU (Dec. 20) and Xavier (Feb. 18).

The Bearcats will compete in the Emerald Coast Classic Nov. 23-29, with the first two games of the event taking place at Fifth Third Arena. UC will play host to Eastern Illinois (Nov. 23) and North Carolina Central (Nov. 25) before traveling to Niceville, Florida to play Middle Tennessee (Nov. 28) and either Creighton or Ole Miss (Nov. 29).

UC’s two other nonconference road contests come at Nebraska (Dec. 13) and NC State (Dec. 30).

That's a really, really solid schedule. Nice work.

The two games we didn't know were Wagner and St. Francis (PA), Wagner finished 213 in the RPI and St. Francis finished 298.

On paper its a good schedule. It gets real in late November and doesn't let up in December either.

It's pretty good, a step up from last year, where it was also pretty solid. Something that was necessary given the conference schedule won't be as good with Louisville's departure.

This year's 13 OOC games (vs. last year's 13 OOC games):

1-5. Xavier, NC Central, NC State, MTSU and Nebraska were on the schedule this year and last. None of these teams are marshmallows, they'll all likely have RPIs in the Top 100.

6. VCU is much like New Mexico in terms of quality, arguably a bit better.

7. Creighton is much like Pittsburgh in terms of quality. (Ole Miss would be worse if that's the opponent)

8-12. Both schedules have low-RPI conference home games (St Francis PA, Morehead, Eastern Illinois, Stony Brook and Wagner this year vs. App State, Campbell, Mass-Lowell, Kennesaw St, USC-Upstate last year).

13. The big one: San Diego State this year versus another low-RPI conference home game (Chicago State) last year.

Wagner, Morehead, and Stony Brook all had winning records and together combined for almost 60 wins. UC needs them to have a repeat performance. The key to the RPI is avoiding teams that win 10 games are less.

Or a team whose mascot is a camel.

Are we actually supposed to worry about Creighton still? It was my understanding that McDermott basically tricked everyone into thinking they were a legitmate power basketball program for a few years.

They've been good long before McDermott and will continue to be a good program without him. Now they won't get the same media attention but Creighton is a very good basketball school that has regularly been in contention for an NCAA bid (they've made 10 of the last 15 NCAA tournaments with 4 NIT's). They also average over 16,500 in attendance. Please don't be ignorant...07-coffee3

I, admittedly, haven't been a College basketball fan for more than 7 years, so forgive my "ignorance", but I posted that message to get an informative response such as yours.

yup...although they hailed out of the MVC. Not a powerhouse conference by any stretch. You put that same team in the Big East over the same period of time and they only make the ncaa during McDermott's time easily.

Lance McAlister @LanceMcAlister · 3h
From UC: Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout #Bearcats vs #Xavier on Feb. 18 at 5th/3rd Arena will tip at 7 p.m. ET on either ESPN or ESPN2.

Lance McAlister ‏@LanceMcAlister
.....ESPN will determine which network the game will air on and make the announcement seven to 10 days prior to game day.#Bearcats #Xavier

Regardless... at least it wont be buried on FoxSports1 like last year.

Not necessarily, ESPN has buried it on ESPNU before. Good that it's not buried this year.

I hate to say it, but I think after the brawl, it will never be buried on ESPNU ever again.
