LOuisville has been very interested to stand up a lacross team, to fit with the conference. ACC and the Lacross schools very happy.

LaCross schools have been pushing VT long on this, they see such an untapped pottential at VT. Howver, previous administration had no intention, quoted title 9 issues, and money.

I think the new AD will at least have a discussion,, but he has to raise VT athletic budget similar to Louisville

RE: Will Louisville add lacrosse now?
Lacrosse growth has been amazing. Its fast becoming a sport that is peeking interest in every single American culture. A month ago, I was driving around in the inner city in Rochester on a Saturday morning and I saw little African American kids playing in an organized lacrosse league. At first, I thought they were playing peewee fb, but it turns out they were playing "peewee lacrosse." I knew that an organized lacrosse league has been formed in inner city high schools here but surprised to see little tykes running around with lacrosse sticks.

I believe lacrosse will be a popular mainstream American sport within 5 years and National Lacrosse League players will start making big time money in that league as well. The smart money is that the Acc will capitalize on this sport and Acc members should be starting up teams as soon as it becomes feasible for them to do so. And I'm not that big of a lacrosse fan. But I see where its headed.

I'd heard we'd be adding lacrosse and women's gymnastics to balance out for Title IX. We already have a women's lacrosse team.

You mean there are people playing the sport in a city in which there are not just one but two professional teams(Knighthawks & Rattlers) in it? Color me shocked.

I mean no disrespect but I don't think lacrosse is some rare thing to see in western New York.

I think cuseroc is getting at the angle it is becoming more mainstream. It was considered a preppy, rich white boys' sport. I think Lacrosse still has a ways to go to break out of the minor sport category.

I'd love to see UL add Men's Lax to get the league back to 6 teams. It is really nice sport to watch live...but also the games last +/- 5 mins of 2 hours so it is made for TV.

Also, props on knowing Rochester is in WNY. Syracuse is in CNY. Never tell an Orange fan that Syracuse is in WNY.

Lacrosse is intentionally being held back in southern states like FL and TX. Sports coaches don't let kids play multiple sports and usually have unofficial offseason workouts. Still kids in FL and TX, especially Houston and Dallas, are taking up the sport and playing it as a club sport at the schools. It may be some time before it becomes an official sport but once it does, a lot of football and baseball talent will be changing sports, not that it will matter down here.

On a parallel note (in an alternate universe sort of way), I wish that Syracuse would field a baseball team.

For Pitt (and UNC and NC State), UL adding gymnastics would be great because the ACC was set to add women's gymnastics as a sport until Maryland left. The ACC even set up a webpage and twitter account until the rug was pulled out beneath them.

UL is among the few schools trying to push "Stunt", aka cheerleading, as a new NCAA sport. But honestly, it makes more sense to add a traditional sport like gymnastics that would immediately satisfy Title IX and be supported by the ACC rather than jumping through the legal and NCAA hurdles to move Stunt into wider legitimacy.

With the revenue coming into Louisville, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense not to add these sports. The only other ACC sports that Louisville doesn't sponsor are wrestling and men's and women's fencing, but obviously neither of those would offset Title IX concerns for adding men's lax. Gymnastics and lax also have more potential as spectator sports (at least over fencing, and in the South, over wrestling as well).

The problem there, of course, is title IX. Which makes it doubly expensive because they'd likely have to add another sport and already have softball.

I think that it may be inevitable or the Cuse just because of how big ACC baseball is (comparatively to other sports).

I know there have been a few informal discussions about it. If UofL does add men's lacrosse, it will probably be a few years down the road. I imagine athletics will want to see how their current programs are doing in the ACC before adding more sports. Plus, we have some other projects that are a higher priority right now (e.g. academic center).

I really thought that with the success Volleyball had in the 80's and 90's it would have been a top 4 sport by now. Louisville still has great Womens volleyball.

We've been undefeated for 40+ years! I am with you on this, I want an Orange baseball team.

I spoke to a Louisville Women's LAX coach several years ago, and she hadn't heard anything concrete about a Men's team.

Maybe you guys could just steal Bellarmine's team.

This article from WDRB jives with what I've been hearing.

http://www.wdrb.com/story/25918135/crawf...imb-in-acc

How might that free up mindpower and manpower in the U of L athletic department to move forward without worry about the college sports landscape? Among things to look for immediately are the question of whether U of L might add sports. During a recent interview with WDRB, U of L president James Ramsey said it's a possibility. The only ACC sports that U of L does not offer are wrestling, men's lacrosse and fencing. Jurich could see if there's any kind of demand to add those.

But of more immediate importance are some building issues, in the following priority:

1. An Academic Center for athletics, to be built into the south end of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Expected cost: $14 million.

2. Examination of the possibility of expanding Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. U of L has put out a request for proposals, and has been consulting to see what the feasibility of expansion would be. Mark Jurich said feedback so far has been positive.
