App St and Ga So are both FBS transitional this year, they'll be eligible for conference title but not bowls. Same goes for ODU. Charlotte is one year behind so they're considered FCS transitional. ODU and Charlotte both played C-USA for all other sports this past year though. I believe all other recent move ups have finished their transitions now.

wow I am so confused LOL.

1. is the sun belt decided by a CCG

2. did ODU join the conference this year or last year

3. are gsu & appy technically become FBS schools last year or this year?

RE: So how many schools are changing conferences on July 1st?
sun belt not decided by a CCG(only 11)
ODU joined last year for all sports but football- and in football this year

I think gsu and appy are fbs counters this year in terms of bowl eligible.

so ODU, GSU, & ASU will be competing in the Sun belt for the first time this year in football correct?

I think ODU confused a lot of people, even ESPN, with their independent, half FBS, half FCS schedule. While many places were calling them FBS last year, weren't they technically an FCS independent on the same transition schedule as App and GaSo? ODU and Charlotte announced the move very early in relation to when it was actually occurring, while App and GaSo moved as soon possible once the announcement was made. It gave ODU an extra recruiting class before the move.

That's right with ODU, we intentionally delayed the transition. Charlotte was required to have 2 seasons as FCS before their "FBS transitional" season due to their just starting Div I football. Apparantly an NCAA rule.

Not according to Chris Bevilacqua....

from the link:

''To strive and thrive, you've got to get bigger. Conference realignment is about exactly that: having more economic value when you get bigger,'' said Chris Bevilacqua, a sports media consultant. ''It's not going to stop, because the market forces are going to continue to incentivize and reward size. It's not just college. It's everything in the ecosystem. So will it settle down and pause for a while? My guess is probably. Will there be further consolidation and realignment? I think most definitely. When will that happen? That's hard to say.''

I agree there will be other additional moves at some time in the future. I think what John meant was already scheduled future moves.

Yes, although UMass doesn't have a conference home to go to yet. I still don't think Idaho and New Mexico State are truly settled, either. The SBC just kind of did them a favor to buy them some time, but I can't really see schools like Georgia Southern anxious to travel that far west forever. I think maybe those two are hoping somebody will get a call up to a P5 and open a slot for them in the MWC.

no, I think eventually there's a 12th team to the SBC and you have 2 6 team divisions which helps travel out big time....
