Yes, although UMass doesn't have a conference home to go to yet. I still don't think Idaho and New Mexico State are truly settled, either. The SBC just kind of did them a favor to buy them some time, but I can't really see schools like Georgia Southern anxious to travel that far west forever. I think maybe those two are hoping somebody will get a call up to a P5 and open a slot for them in the MWC.

no, I think eventually there's a 12th team to the SBC and you have 2 6 team divisions which helps travel out big time....

I'm thinking the opposite. I think Idaho doesn't get renewed and the Sun Belt stays at 10 fb and 11 bb members. With the new changes coming up, I don't think we'll see any more schools able to move to FBS....maybe even some move down to FCS or drop football altogether.

I dunno. going to 12 and forming 2 divisions would make it where the App St's of the world would have to travel west of the Mississippi at most 2x a year- and every other year only once.

Not according to Chris Bevilacqua....

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/conference-...ZJUDQ3NF8x

from the link:

''To strive and thrive, you've got to get bigger. Conference realignment is about exactly that: having more economic value when you get bigger,'' said Chris Bevilacqua, a sports media consultant. ''It's not going to stop, because the market forces are going to continue to incentivize and reward size. It's not just college. It's everything in the ecosystem. So will it settle down and pause for a while? My guess is probably. Will there be further consolidation and realignment? I think most definitely. When will that happen? That's hard to say.''

What I got from his quote:

"Gee, I hope so, but I really don't have a clue, really, no idea at all. I just have a gut feeling, ya know?"

That's more of a concern on the Olympic side since, Idaho and NMSU are football only. However, if they are going to complain about that then they shouldn't be in the FBS. FBS conferences are wider and farther apart than the FCS and non-fb conferences.

Actually six current SBC members are west of the Mississippi.

While technically an affiliate in a non-major sport, the Big Ten did include Johns Hopkins' membership in mlax in the same release as UMD and RU.

I only even mention it because it was a bit funny how nothing was mentioned about JHU and CIC membership, as the Big Ten certainly put its "almighty" research coop into the blurb (second paragraph, no less). Previously, it stood as "intends to contact for a possible membership." LOL if they don't take it seriously...

JMU is FBS ready and already averages more fans per game in football as an FCS than many MAC, Sun Belt and C-USA schools with an athletic budget that would be in the top half of all three conferences.

It looks like JMU has rejected a likely Sun Belt opportunity for academic reasons or political reasons or something like that. It's too bad because that is likely the only FBS spot left at this point.

I will never understand JMU's administration or BOV non-movement,
it almost seems they are determined to keep JMU in FCS regardless
of what their fans want.

They weren't ready when ODU was, and that's where they wanted to be. Problem is, when they turned down Sun Belt before, hoping for CUSA, those CUSA "ringers" left for the AAC and were replaced by some of the very schools JMU felt it stood over when they turned them down.

It's not a good spot to be in.
