If all the incoming frosh and JuCos show up, we have 7 scholarships available. We have 10 seniors under scholarship. Atkins can apply for a medical redshirt if he chooses.

So that means at this moment we have 17 scholarships (16 if Atkins returns) available for next years class.

Attrition and current R-Jr. not being offered a 5th year are ways to free up more spots for next years class.

We already have 20 guys expected to come next year.

Yes I remember they said spring practice was kind of sparse as far as players. Even with this years class will we be low on scholly players for 2014?

It seems like shaking the trees for a couple more players for this fall, isn't it kind of late to do that?

So this just means we need 15 more for next year? I thought there was a limit on the total per year? Wouldn't that put us over?

Again, if I'm an upperclassman on this team I wouldn't plan on a lot of PT this season or my money being there next year.

18 verbal commits for 2015 and 2 reported greyshirts that should join the team in January. I assume some of the 2015 verbals will be early enrollees as well.

Yes, and one of reasons NCAA is under the gun.

Lots of sentiment for schollies being four-years guaranteed.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page here, there are 18 verbal commitments in the 2015 class with 2 potential greyshirts as jubbas pointed out. That's 20 spots, with enough room for about 24-25 total by my count (strictly talking 2015 class).

Correct me if I'm wrong jubbas, but what you are saying is that we'll have about 15 schollies to hand out in the 2016 class.

25 is the max you can sign in one recruiting class. Schools use greyshirts (counted towards the following years class) to get around that.

Be surprised if that happened because one of things NCAA was formed to do was stop the "tramp" athlete and associated abuses in early part of last century.

There are a handful of current redshirt juniors I could see not being brought back for a 5th year because they havent really contributed.

Might be counting on some of those guys just graduating and leaving?

I am surprised that no mac level teams have jumped on the 4 year scholarship thing.

That would create some distinction and help with the recruiting I would think.

It is. Might be bigger than 25 if a couple want to come in early.

I thought so too. I am just counting the scholarship players on the most current roster on wmubroncos.com and the incoming frosh and jucos. The current roster could be outdated and/or some of the frosh might not show up.

Opps...just recounted...we have 7 available at the moment.
