Thomas Rawls might be the smartest guy on the UM campus
Thomas Rawls, attending the so called Harvard of the Midwest, i.e. a supposedly very tough school full of America's best and brightest. Yes, Thomas Rawls completed 40 credit hours in THREE MONTHS 04-jawdrop

Now, scUM has admitted that a huge majority of their FB players are getting worthless general ed degrees, but frankly, I don't even know if you could cobble together a schedule of the needed classes and take 40 credit hours worth in that period of time.

At the end of the quote the Scout.com dunderhead who wrote the article congratulated him on "His amazing amount of hard work." Does a red flag go off for any journalist today. "Hmmm, 40 credits in 3 months, that seems a little implausible."

Quote:Just spoke to Thomas Rawls' mom and it sounds like everything is going smoothly on his end. He will suit up for the Chippewas this fall, but it's been a long road, so you will understand a bit more as to why he hasn't had a bigger presence on the team just yet...

"He just crammed 40 credits in the last three months," said Deadra Whitley, Rawls' mother. "They didn't think he would do it, but he wanted to have that degree for Michigan. He had his last exam on this past monday, and we picked his stuff up Thursday. He is now at CMU today and is ready for the Chips."

A lot of work put in by this young man to get to this point.

How the hell do you take 40 credits in 3 months? 4 months = semester, or 2 months = a summer semester.

That's not even possible...

Anyone who has ever even taken a standard 15 credit hours in one semester can tell you that is literally impossible to take 40 credit hours...

Well there is that 24 credits for the swimming pool maintenance self directed curriculum. You are allowed to take those concurrently from the UM Dearborn Campus.

Intro to Pool Maintenance 202 - 4 credits
Pool Chemical Lab 203 -4 credits
Pool Signage and Entry Gate Security 322 -4 credits
Interview Process for Summer Lifeguards, Male 435 -4 credits
Interview Process for Summer Lifeguards, Female 437 -4 credits
Pool Filling and Drainage Procedures 494 -4 credits

Then you've got
Recruiting Tools: Hype vs Reality 375 -4 credits
Social Media in Coaching Self Promotion 455 -4 credits
The Best Defense is a Good Offense 478 -4 credits
Elementary School Steroids Ethics in the Modern World 502 -4 credits

These are all accelerated classes, 4 weeks, you take them first month 3 classes, second month 4 classes, third month 3 classes.

These are technically from UM Dearborn but feature guest instructors sourced from CMU.

Even if he took 20 in the winter term ur talking 10 two hour classes, plus reading, studying, and various assignments.

But to pull the other 20 off in a shortened spring term he'd need 10 four hour classes a week.

If he really completed the 40 hours this is all administrative shananigans at the behest of Hoke.

Rawls played HS Football at Flint Northern.

His coach was Fred Jackson Jr., son of long-time Michigan RB coach Fred Jackson.

Regardless of how he got diploma from Harvard of the West - doubt he will make a significant contribution to Chimps if he couldn't regularly crack rotation for Grandpa's backfield.

Fred Jackson is a grade A prick.

Assuming you mean Grandpa - then how has he managed to keep his job at U-M through four head coaches, for over 20 years?

(It's a rhetorical question with side of sarcasm).

Yes...gramps. I've had the "pleasure" to be around him enough to know what a stellar feller he is. (dripping with sarcasm)

The younger Jackson's are really decent people though.

I think he could be good. But the real story here how does this guy get 40 credits in three months at what is supposed to be a very tough school?

Gardner graduated as a junior without taking a RS year. Possible, because they're usually on campus for spring and summer, but even for a great student who wasnt carrying the load of sports as well, it would be extremely hard to do it in three years. Something isnt passing the smell test.

Even if the kid took ten 4 credit "How To Tie Your Shoes" classes, I still can't see it with daily assignments, quizes, tests, exams, studying, class time, practice, weight lifting, etc. and everything else that comes with being a student athlete.

Oh for sure. And the Freep confirmed it when they pointed out that over 60% of the football players were general ed majors. But this goes behind Mickey Mouse classes, this is a case where there aren't enough hours in the day to pull it off.

I wish that guy over on the Walmart Wolve x 10 thread would read this and give us his take. 03-drunk

He'd probably think it was great. Anything for the maize and blue. Why should they let education get in the way of football?

Quote from Eric Rutter, Scout.com:

"The last three months have included the conclusion of two different semesters (winter and spring) at UM, where the credit limit is 18 per semester. My belief is that he was slated to take 18 per semester, but wouldn't have graduated so they bent the rules by one class to allow him to walk and graduate. It is very possible. It's a feat... but its possible."
