Listening this morning to the Drew Deener show this morning-(he does the local "Tier 3" TV Games for Louisville) he could not state enough the one school that SWUNG A HUGE BAT FOR LOUISVILLE OVER UConn was Clemson....the one school that really wasn't in favor was Miami especially Donna Shalala.

But it was also good to have Kevin White @ Duke and Dr. Ramsey relationship with the brass at UNC....04-cheers

Why the hell do uconn fans want to even go down this road?

the net result of this discussion is

1. uconn wasn't good enough to get a bid
2. uconn was good enough to get a bid but got blocked by uconns conference mates

its essentially a "do you want a bullet in the head or in the chest" discussion

Well ... this article on the Clemson Rivals site certainly backs part of this up ...

Basically doing 04-chairshot to UConn ....

Hmmmm .... trying to now ... hang on ...

Huh. I can't seem to copy the article. Which is weird. It even has a copyright warning on the bottom of it, which means I SHOULD be able to copy it ... There must be some kinda "batman" protection over this.

Let me try something else.

EDIT: Weird ... I can't seem to copy this article. So, you can't see the article since it's premium content? Interesting that I can .... I'm not premium on the Clemson board.

The copyright warning also warns against summarizing the article for other websites. But screw that. I'll give it a shot ...

Starts out by saying tomorrow will be the official welcoming to the conference of Louisville. And gives details of the celebration for downtown Louisville, with commissioner Swofford. But recounts the changes to the ACC from Sept 2011, when Syracuse and Pitt were announced at having been invited to the ACC. And the grumbling from some of the football powers in the league at feeling left out of the decision process. It talks about not inviting West Virginia, and then losing them to the Big XII. And how the football powers starting grumbling a little louder. And then details the academic shortcomings of Louisville as compared to the rest of the conference (US World Report latest ranking has U of L 161. West Virginia 170. UConn 57), but how the football side is very pleased they are being added.

Article closes with "(ex-president) Barker and Clemson played a large role in shifting the momentum from the Huskies and to the Cardinals. And thank goodness they did. Could you imagine if tomorrow's press conference were being held in Storrs instead?"

____

Maybe someone else can figure out how to decode the batman protection and copy and paste the whole thing for ya.

As long as MD was in the ACC, WVa had no chance because MD, UVa, and Duke were solid blackballs with MD's blackball going back to 1953. With MD leaving the ACC WVa went from no chance in hell to a chance depending on how Pitt and VT feel about WVA.

As with UConn and BC, WVa sits in part of the VT and Pitt media and recruiting footprints so VT and Pitt would look at them in a different light - as potential direct competition.

Also apparently the Former Clemson President played a huge role in bring in ND as a partial member.

You can say what you want about former Clemson president Jim Barker and the way he went about his business, but the man must be given some credit for the next two major moves made by the ACC. Barker played an integral role in the addition of Notre Dame as a partial football member, and then the addition of Louisville after Maryland abruptly departed for the Big Ten.
