Recruiting Process Question
I have a cousin who is 14 years old. She plays tennis, lives in Puerto Rico and is enrolled at the Olympic Villiage school. They recently visited and attended a Tennis camp at Windyke.

While here my uncle asked me to help find out about scholarship information in the States. I enrolled her on the NCAA site for eligibility and then signed her up on NCSA. The problem is that she speaks little English.

What are your thoughts? Should we pursue coaches/programs ourselves or rely on NCSA to help find her a school? How reputable is the NCSA?

RE: Recruiting Process Question
Im not sure about the NCSA, but I would continue to advocate for her. It might mean the difference in a program that would have never known about her otherwise. Anyway I wish her the best of luck.

Don't we have a local recruiting expert on staff?

RE: Recruiting Process Question
Many schools have a link for you to fill out a questionaire if you are interested in being recruited for a sport like women's tennis.

CBU has this for all sports and its easy to find from the main page of their athletic website.

UofM has an off-shoot recruiting website from gotigersgo called beamemphistiger.com. Find Women's Tennis, and you will see a similar questionaire to fill out.

For non-revenue, low budget sports like women's tennis, I'd have your cousin fill these out for quite a few schools.

Are there schools in the NCAA that give scholarships to non-english speaking students?

Yes, the UofM has offered for women's Tennis. Girl from Spain had a full ride. No English.

No English would be highly unusual. All F-1 visa students are required to take a language proficiency test as part of the admissions process. They often enter intensive language immersion programs.

Whoever took D Rose's ACT for him can take the language test for her.

I got the story from one of our players who now coaches at Windyke. Just saying. But I do agree that my cousin will fare much better with English in her portfolio. She has almost two years to pick it up.

I said unusual not impossible. Athletics sometimes creates shortcuts.
