RE: First Time you Ever Heard/Saw Other SBC Schools
App State - I'm pretty sure I received a piece of mail from them my senior year of high school, but then discovered who they were in 2004 when I started at GS.

Ga Southern - When my friend started school there in 2003.
GA State - When my sister started school there in 1997.
Troy - I think when the Cowboys drafted Demarcus Ware was my first real notice.
UL - When I interned in Louisiana for a year 2009.
ULM - When I interned in Louisiana for a year in 2009.

USA, stAte, Tx St, UTA, UALR, NMSU, Idaho - When I first heard we were joining the Sun Belt.

so, a youngin; who doesn't recall the 2005 playoffs? Wait, you were in school then. Did you not follow the football team in '05?

I did, went to just about every game. To be honest though the only games I really cared about during the season were Furman and App. Didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the rest of them. I actually care 1000% times more about GS football now than I did when I was in school, too many other distractions.

Edit: you also have to remember I had 0 investment in GS football before I went there and had the pleasure of witnessing our worst seasons in 20 years. So I choose to forget some of it.

RE: First Time you Ever Heard/Saw Other SBC Schools
Troy - when they beat Mizzu
ULM - when they beat bama
UL-L - when talk of GS going to the SBC started, before that nothing.
Txst - 2005 playoff game, payback time
Idaho and NMSU - sort of new about them when I started really following college sports in the late 90's but didn't really know anything about them (good or bad)
USA and stAte - didn't know anything until we were excepted by the SBC
UTA and LR - still not sure if they are really members of the SBC, jk. basically if you don't have a football team I don't know who you are (no offense intended)

GaSt -when they started a football program. only heard they were a commuter college with a good business program.
Appy - when I started at GS.

RE: First Time you Ever Heard/Saw Other SBC Schools
App-from playing them
stAte-from Malzahn going there, the old 1AA champ game was before my time and didnt find out about it till much later
Idaho and NMSU-state schools, heard of them for years, didn't know much about them. didn't highly annoying ESPN personality and former NFLer Mark Schlereth go to Idaho?
UL and ULM-heard of them for years (did they have different names or something before?) didn't know much about them
Troy-remembered them from being a good FCS team and Damarcus Ware
Tx State-FCS playoffs in 2005
GA State-heard of the school several years ago, didn't pay much attention till news of them starting football broke on our GSUFans message board
USA-didn't hear of them until we were set to join SBC. Maybe one of our throwing quarterbacks from our down years transferred there? Clarke or Chappell or someone? Not sure...

We started football in 2009. We haven't had any Georgia Southern transfers. It's clear from this thread that football makes your school visible and I'm so glad that USA had football now.

RE: First Time you Ever Heard/Saw Other SBC Schools
App St - I believe it was one very cold day in 1987 in Boone.
stAte - 1986 NCAA 1-AA National Championship game but I re-discovered them a couple of years ago at the Go Daddy Bowl.
ULAR - remember them fondly from the early 80's basketball rivalry they shared with GS while in the TAAC
GA St - Also remember GS playing them in basketball in the 80's and remember thinking why didn't they get more respect after all other schools like Michigan St, Iowa St or Florida St seemed to get respect but I was young and naïve at the time.
Idaho - Had not really heard of them until I found out they would be joining the belt this year.
ULL - Another team I had not heard of until I started following the Sun Belt but now I am impressed.
ULM - I probably should remember them but I did not really know anything about them until they beat Alabama
NMSU - I heard about them in the WAC but they are still the only team in the Belt I have not even watched highlight film on. Looking forward to seeing them in action.
USA - Never heard of them until I started following the Belt two years ago.
UTA - Same as USA
Tex St - 2005 05-mafia still looking for payback here
Troy - remember them from our past games and I also remember reading about them doing well in FBS and thinking I wish we had moved up when they did.

Glad to be in the Belt!
04-cheers

ULL- hadn't heard of them until I started researching the Sun Belt.
ULM- hadn't heard of them until I started researching the Sun Belt.
NMSU- heard about them when the WAC was imploding.

App- High School Ski Trips to Boone in the 90s
GaSou- (Just being honest) Friend senior year(97)in homeroom was a football player, heard me talking about going to GSU(State). He thought I was going to Southern. Asked me if I was interested in rooming, because he was worried about rooming with a "dude with Confederate flags hung up in his dorm, and I seemed like a cool white dude." Figured out we were talking about 2 different places.
UALR- hadn't heard of them until I started looking into the Sun Belt.
Idaho- The Kibbie Dome always stood out watching college football.
ULL- Spent a little time in Lafayette in 2004 for work.
ULM- hadn't heard of them until I started looking into the Sun Belt.
NMSU- hadn't heard of them until I started looking into the Sun Belt.
South Alabama- Like BariBlue heard of them when we started a football team and people were comparing us.
UTA- hadn't heard of them until I started looking into the Sun Belt.
Texas State- Again the Necessary Roughness angle. Looked up to see if there was one.
Troy- PC Beach Trips. You drive right by the Phenix City Campus

One of the track/cross-country runners at my high school (Mobile AL) went to Appalachian State in the mid-80s. I was about 4 years younger and looked up to him. He was a good guy.

Troy -- Lots of alums living in Mobile. Also they had some great Div. II football teams in the mid-80s, people in Mobile talked about that.

One of my elementary school teachers went to Georgia State. She was incredibly beautiful.

I knew about the Northeast Louisiana Indians and the Southwestern Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns since childhood. Don't remember how I heard about them, but I did.

Georgia Southern -- when Erk Russell took the job there.

App St - When I arrived at GA Southern.
GA Southern - When I started researching in-state schools to attend.
GA State - My ma is a graduate.
stAte - When I arrived at GA Southern and starting learning about our traditions like our hobby for collecting NCs (1986).
Idaho - March, 2013 when they were announced as a football only member of the SBC.
ULL - I have heard of "Ragin' Cajuns" for a few years but didn't know much about the school until we joined the SBC.
ULM- March, 2013 when we announced the move-up. No prior knowledge.
NMSU - Knew of them because they are the only other game in town besides UNM.
USA - Didn't know this school existed until we announced our move-up.
Texas State - The playoff game in 2005.
Troy - Old foe who has made a lot of noise in the SBC prior to our move-up.
