Appalachian - In late 80s when I learned about Georgia Southern while I was stationed in the Army in Germany.

GS -- Though I'm from generations of born and bred USC Gamecocks, my folks told me about this little school just down the road from Fort Stewart that had just started playing football. Plus, a certain GSU linebacker's mom was an officer at the bank on Jaegar Kaserne when I was in Aschaffenburg and her talking about it interested me.

UALR - Little Rock makes me think of fried chicken, but I don't know why.

Arkansas State - 1986 National Championship game.

Georgia State - Probably Lefty Dreisell coaching basketball or the old TAAC days.

Idaho - John Friesz was good back in the day.

Louisiana - We have good friends who are Cajun to the bone and originially hail from Batchelor. I love Louisiana.

Louisiana-Monroe - Not sure but have known about them.

New Mexico State - Probably through hoops.

South Alabama - When some kid in our coverage area signed with them, I think.

UT-Arlington - Baseball, but that might be the Texas Rangers.

Texas State - 2005. Dammit.

Troy - From playing them and from their message board, which had some of the biggest idiots I've ever run across on the net. MightyTrojanDeathMachine, jeez. That, and IIRC they have satellite campuses everywhere, including Army bases.

Known about Georgia State due to being in the State and knowing people who go there.

Know about App since becoming a GSU fan

Ditto with Troy, Idaho, ULM, and StAte.

Knew about UL, NMSU just from being a CFB fan in general.

Had never heard of Texas State until we played them in 2005.

Had never heard of USA until they started football.

Georgia Southern - played water polo against them when I was in college (late 70's) - still don't have much love for the Eagles, but I'm glad they escaped the SoCon with us.

Appalachian - about 45 years ago -'learned to snow ski at Appalachian Ski Mtn - two of my three brothers went to App

Troy / USA - lived in Alabama as a kid - grandfather had a cabin on Lake Martin - learned there were universities not in Tuscaloosa during those summers water skiing on the lake

Georgia State - watched the banter on FCS boards as they started their football program

ULM, stAte, Texas St, UALR, ULL - started paying attention when App first began feasibility study about moving up - glad we're joining the fun

NMSU, Idaho - I've known they were out there somewhere - looking forward to visiting both schools

Ok let me see here.

UTA. Grew up with AState playing them in the Southland.

UALR. When I was a kid we went to an AState UALR game at Barton Coliseum and about all I recall was that there was a slobbering Razorback painted on the court.

UL joined SLC in 1971 same year my family bought season tix. Always known them.

ULM. Joined SLC in 1982. That's when I heard of them.

Texas St. Back around 1986. SLC was wanting to get larger and AState was opposed to the plan to take the league to ten teams by adding (SW) TXST, Sam, SFA, and NWLa. AState wanted to add one to replace UTA and stick with a 6 game slate. We played Southern Ill every year and Memphis and Ole Miss pretty regularly with a DII tune-up so we didn't want to play 8 league games.

NMSU. When we joined the Big West in 1992.

Idaho played in 1975. Our first home Division I opponent as a member of Division I.

South Alabama. 1989. They beat Bama in the NCAA Tournament two years after AState lost in OT at UArk in the NIT so similar in-state games caught my attention.

Troy. 1991 we were terrible and Al Kincaid was on his way to being fired in year 2. It was our last year of transition to I-A Troy was transitioning to I-AA. Troy has us beat and we were down to a Hail Mary. In the one bit of luck in Kincaid's career a Troy safety tackled an AState receiver well before the ball arrived and broke up the multi-player scrum for the ball. On the untimed do-over AState scored and won.

Georgia State. 1991 NCAA tournament. I'm sure I was for them since they played UArk but had forgotten that until I looked it up. What I remembered was USA Today mentioning that they didn't offer any season ticket plan and announcers during the game talking about the court being on an upper floor.

Georgia Southern. I-AA Title game.

App. Late 1986 or early 1987 stumbled across then while compiling instances of I-A playing in-state I-AA.

86-84, USA pulled it out with a 3-point shot by Jeff Hodge with 00:03 left to go, after being down by 16 at the half. One of the sweetest moments in Jags history -- it remains our only W in March Madness. I remember it well.

We lost to eventual National Champion Michigan in the second round (Michigan barely escaped Xavier in the first round)
