The link doesn't mention what you quoted. But I do remember Pete Rose bitching about how tough pitchers were on him when he had his hitting streak going. Let's face it, people give a little extra when playing against the best of the best.

All true. I remember the stuff with Pete Rose, too. His attitude was ironic, because he always went all-out even if it was 12-0 in the 9th inning. Yet he seemed to think he was being cheated if other players did the same thing.

The hitting streak was broken up after 44 games against the Atlanta Braves. Rookie LHP Larry McWilliams and veteran RHP reliever Gene Garber held Rose hitless for that game.
