RE: Syrian Uprising What If
I don't think ISIS could take over most of Iraq, they're still easily outnumbered by Shia, and if the Shia need weapons and supplies Iran can supply them much more easily than when Saddam was running things.

Its a night and day difference for the Shia of that country. The government in Baghdad is getting military supplies from the US, Iran and even Russia.
Its no longer the ISIS or ISIL any longer. They are going by The Islamic State and you either pledge allegiance to it or be destroyed. That goes for Al-Nusra. That goes for Al-Qaeda. They've got a problem because they are surrounded by Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran. Even if they could topple the ineffective Baghdad and Damascus governments there is no way they could manage expansion into more territory surrounded by big regional players.
The net impact is that Sunni groups have a choice in Syria of aligning with the IS or the coalition backed by the Free Syrian Army. If the IS undermines Al-Qadea that would make it easier to support Al-Nusra in Syria. It might push Sunni's on the fence about the Baghdad coalition into joining it as the only alternative.
