Why do conservatives feel so threatened by soccer????
I thought this issue was reserved only for a select few partisan hacks on this forum (who don't need to be named) and not reflective of the general attitude that conservatives have on the sport. But after seeing the Ann Coulter article making its rounds and seeing how foxnews makes only a single mention of the World Cup in its homepage, and does so in the space that is literally in the spot reserved for the least popular story ==> while ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN all have multiple World Cup articles in their top spots......

I do not understand how any political movement can actually feel threatened by a freaking sport. Especially when there is absolutely no political movement connected to this sport (from the perspective of a sane person at least). Can someone please explain this to me?

Please remove "soccer" from your thread title. It startled me and I pee'd a little.

I'm conservative, at least fiscally, and I love association football. Been to two World Cups (3 counting women), two European championships (2000 and 2004), and have season tickets for MLS Dynamo. Also rugby football, 3 World Cups, 4 British Lions tours, Las Vegas and Dubai 7s, and any US Eagles match within reasonable range. Don't feel threatened in the least by them, so can't answer your question. Sorry.

Seriously.

Maybe because it gives them something in common with the rest of the world. That worries conservatives.

I don't feel threatened by soccer, and have enjoyed the few matches I've been to. There is an authentic Irish pub near my home (the people who own/manage it are literally from Ireland) and they always have some sort of soccer game on the flat-screens. No harm in that, IMHO.

I think some liberals go out of their way to praise soccer, or pretend to be interested in it, simply because they know that it's a sport that proverbial "Red State" Americans don't give a sh*t about.

I think you hit upon it.

The main reason liberals love soccer is that it reminds them of the European state they so desperately long for.

To them this American experiment was a nice little party but in the end, they have always felt more secure under a socialistic system.

I'm sure it depends, but I know conservatives who like the sport to a certain extent.

I think your whole premise that only liberals like soccer is stupid.

Hate the game if you want but you don't have to put your pathetic political spin on it.

RE: Why do conservatives feel so threatened by soccer????
It is the official sport of international socialism. The sport where equality of outcome, the tie, is acceptable. And sometimes when the tie is unacceptable, they flip a coin to decide the game, otherwise known as "the shootout". It is the sport where they are afraid to use a public clock to notify fans of the games status. The hoi polloi has no need to know the game status. The officials, the elite, will keep track of that behind the scenes. At its' core it is 22 guys or gals kicking a ball back and forth until someone tells them to stop. But sometimes they use their heads. Except for thinking.

I could go on but I think my paint has dried.

Not all liberals, but by far, more liberals watch it than conservatives.

Really? I'd love to see your scientific data on that.
