Rice pitchers having a strong summer
Two of our 2015 starting pitchers are off to a great start this summer. Kevin McCanna in the Cape Cod League has started three games. He's 3-0 with a 1.90 ERA. In 19 innings he's allowed 13 hits and 2 walks with 10 Ks.

Jon Duplantier is at Santa Barbara. Last night was his 3rd consecutive strong game, allowing only 2 hits and 1 run over 6 innings with 10 punchouts. For the summer he has 18 IP, 2 earned runs, 28 strikeouts, 8 walks and 7 hits. He has a 1.00 ERA and .131 batting average against.

Rutter, McCarthy and Orewiler are also all doing well; Rutter especially. Last time I looked, Evan had pitched in 3 games, 3.0 IP, 1 save, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 BBs, 5 Ks.

Offensively, Byrd is starting to get going in the Cape, with his AVG now up to .250, while Charlie Warren continues to hit over .350, but with only 1 extrabase hit and too many Ks.

I'm excited about Duplantier.

I liked what I saw from him this year as a freshman. He was a solid contributor that hopefully progresses, rather than regresses. I could see him being a solid Friday/Saturday starter soon.

Does anyone know if McCanna or Byrd are injured, as niether has played for Falmouth in over a week now? Thanks.

Don't think Leon is there any more. Not on the Falmouth roster any more.

Evan Rutter appears to be healthy and back in form-- he's now appeared in 5 games for the Foresters: 5 app, 2 saves, 7.0 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 BBs, 11 Ks. Most important, IMO, is the 0 BBs. Keep it up! Next year's bullpen-- with Tekyl, Ditman and Rutter anchoring-- could be as lights out as UH's 2014 trio of Ford, Robinson and Wellbrock.

John Williamson is being used strictly as a short-stint situational lefty. He's been effective, but is once again struggling with his control (which, IMO, is the primary reason The OG has been reluctant to use him): 9 app, 5.1 IP, 0 hits, 1 run, 3 BBs, 3 Ks. Between JWillie and Max McKelligott, we need at least one to step up in 2015 and provide reliable left-handed support out of the bullpen; something we missed dearly this past season.

Leon is one of five Falmouth players with an "x" by their names in the stats.

What are the reasons one is usually "released" for?

I don't think it signals anything significant. Could be a variety of reasons. I know a couple of people whose families host players, and the players are always coming and going. I have to imagine its tough having no time off from baseball, as much fun as the Cape is in the summer.
