Tiger Supporters –

I am excited to privately announce to you before the public release in a few hours that the University of Memphis Basketball game day MATA shuttles will be continuing for the upcoming 2014/15 season. After analyzing and hearing from so many supporters that used the transit system, it was imperative that we made sure to keep it running and in service. Please find our offical press release below.

Thank you for your support and all the letters and emails in regards to the MATA shuttles.

MATA Buses Will Continue Routes to Tiger Basketball Games

Fares and routes to remain the same from 2013-14 season

University of Memphis fans will continue to be afforded the convenience of utilizing shuttle buses to FedExForum and Tiger basketball games for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

The Memphis athletic department announced on Thursday it has reached an agreement with the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) to continue the popular game-day shuttles which have been a service provided to Tiger fans since the opening of The Pyramid in 1991.

“Utilizing MATA’s shuttle buses to attend games at FedExForum has become a tradition for many of our most faithful fans,” said Tom Bowen, Memphis’ director of athletics. “I know of friendships and camaraderie which have formed from fans utilizing the shuttles to travel to games over the past 20-plus years. We are delighted MATA is offering the service again to Tiger Nation this coming season.”

The MATA Board of Commissioners revealed in May it was considering discontinuing the shuttle services due to budget concerns.

Memphis Athletics has committed to an aggressive marketing campaign for the fall which will include prominent exposure for the football and basketball programs on MATA buses throughout the city. The advertising dollars spent with MATA will be used to cover any losses incurred with operating the Tiger game shuttles.

Fares and routes for the shuttles will remain the same from the 2013-14 season. MATA currently offers six shuttle buses originating from locations throughout the city for each game contest at FedExForum. Cost for the service is $4 per person each way.

No blue hair here and I rode the shuttle when I used to live in Germantown. The group of us riders always had a good time and there was no hassle about parking.
