OT: Best states for Business
Georgia #1, Texas #2, North Carolina #5, Idaho #16, Arkansas #30 (tied with New Hampshire), Alabama #34, New Mexico #37, Louisiana #40 (Tied with New York).

Quote:The South rises again!

Georgia—the Peach State—slices up the competition in the 2014 America's Top States for Business rankings by CNBC, signaling an apparent shift back to the Sun Belt from the energy-rich Northern Plains.

Original Story

Complete List

I got to say I am surprised NM is 37th, our state generally ranks 43 and above in these types of lists.

RE: OT: Best states for Business
Georgia has been booming for years. The states population has doubled in the last 20 years. Atlanta has become a smaller big city. To a large global city.

Georgia in 1990.... 5,564,000

Georgia in 2014....9,992,000

Atlanta 1990....2,959,500

Atlanta 2014....5,340,000

Business are moving in like crazy, Newnan a suburb of Atlanta 35 minutes south just opened cancer treatment centers of America. Their 5th hospital in the entire country that's suppose to bring 500,000,000 dollars to the city of Newnan within 5 years.

Having world cooperations such as coke, delta, CNN, Home Depot and coupled with having the WORLDS busiest airport for 16 years in a row brings a lot of people here.

It's good to see Idaho near the top of a list.

Idaho has had over a 20% growth rate for the last two decades. I think the Boise metro area has doubled in size over the last twenty years.

Lots of growth predicted in corridor between Savannah and Statesboro in the next decade or so, too.

RE: OT: Best states for Business
Formerly of Savannah and now in Charleston, I can easily see Savannah and the burbs growing a lot more with the proper leadership. Both cities have their charm, but Charleston is easily the larger, more attractive, and entertaining of the 2. So much more to do in the Charleston area. Savannah has its moments (4th of July, St. Pats., etc...), but not much variety for daily life. Very poor concert and sporting venues, limited night-life and dining, and just overall not living up to it's potential.
Get the right leadership and Savannah could easily rival Charleston. Just gonna take a lot of time to catch up.

Also, SC is really pushing to attract new companies. I'm sure it's near the top of the list or should be.
just saw SC at 24. I see they factored in infrastructure, quality of life, education, etc... So with those rankings it is a fair assessment.

With all this money coming into the state and such you would think we could do a little better than #32 in education tho.

Yes.

Massive growth without the infrastructure to support it... that's a problem.

There is a lot of empty space outside of Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, and Macon.

It's a catch 22 doing that in Atlanta especially for families. For one it is typically more expensive and two, the schools are horrible.

No way in hell I could ever live in metro Atlanta. Way too many people and the traffic is just nightmarish.

I've lived in Augusta and Savannah before...plenty big for me.

Then move to New England playa. Schools in Georgia suck. Not new info.

I'm 15 miles from work, and it takes me 20 minutes to get here. 5 minutes of that is weaving out of my neighborhood.
