RE: Gameday
Interesting read. When the team from Columbus plays a football game at 8 or 8:30 on a Saturday, let a lone a bowl game on a weeknight, the odds of me staying awake through all the tv hoopla are slim to none.

A few years back a friend of mine tried to convince me to join him to see that same team play in a bowl game. The ticket prices were ridiculous (I know its all relative but lets just say we make decent money here) and I just wasn't into being part of the hoopla...I just wanted to watch the game! So yes, the 60, or 42 inch TV is a big competitor for college ADs.

One of the things I've always enjoyed about the MAC Center is that the focus is on basketball. I think its why many fans have rolled eyes at hype guys, half done video introductions and the like.

Thanks for sharing the article.

My feelings exactly. Just because other schools do it doesn't mean we have to. I can't imagine that many fans like KSU's "hype guy." I like the video boards but I think the pre-game video's are too long. Make them short and sweet and let's play ball!

Yes - I agree with most of that.

It's funny when (and not so much at Kent as some of the profitable sports schools) the schools expect students and alumni to treat the school as something more than a commercial enterprise, but the school treats the students and alumni attending games as customers. "Anything of value they put a price tag on. Anything that appeals to anyone is kept locked away -- literally, in some cases -- and only brought out if you pay for it. And what's been permanently banished is any sense of generosity"

I'm going to keep going to games as long as it's fun. It's hard to get enthusiastic about 8PM football games in November, with temperatures under 40, for a team that's 2-8.

I grew up a Cleveland sports fan - Indians, Browns, Cavs - but once I figured that it was just costing me a lot of money and I wasn't seeing a lot of success, I started following Kent State more. I'm more likely to see a MAC championship for Kent State than any of the Cleveland teams even making the playoffs.

I think this is why I like Minor League Baseball. They put on a show for close to a buck. The Aeros did pretty good at this, but the Ducks games are phenomenal. There is something at every corner for all ages. A lot of times I forget the score. Heck, we stayed through a 3 hours rain delay with a 4 year old and he (almost) never got bored.

RE: Gameday
Thanks for posting, that was a great read. My quest to see all the D1A stadiums took me to the Big House in 2011. If memory serves me right, a ticket vs. Western Michigan costed me around 70 bucks & they also charged 40 bucks to park which is the highest parking I've paid in college outside of Penn State who charged 30 bucks (currently at 17 stadiums). Dealing with the money-gouging big programs 3 or four times a year always makes it nice to go back to Dix.

State Penn raised Gameday parking to $40 a few seasons ago (2010).

True! I go to the PSU opener every year and one years I forgot to buy a parking pass ahead of time....when you prepay, parking is just $13, but on game day it's $30-40 depending on which lot. Close to the stadium the higher the price. Smh01-wingedeagle

Tickets are nearly $70 and for our family of five with parking that's one helluva expensive trip with a 5.5 hour drive (gas), tickets, food it's upwards of $500....so we've learned to pack a lunch for the ride over!
