STR: Christian Morris (East High) seeks imm. UCLA xfer to home (but Ole Miss instead)
I guess there is always hope that he'll change his mind and choose us. I don't know if Ole Miss is considered beyond the distance permissible by the NCAA for immediately eligibility next year? He was a 4-star recruit in February.

Maybe he does a little research about the VT QB transfer that played at MUS. Brunetti has been riding the pine at Ole Miss and could have been the starter for Tigers last several years. He could start at left OT for the Tigers for 4 straight years AND he gets a hardship AND a scholly.

I thought Brunetti went to West Virginia first.

Brunetti has actually played a lot since he transferred.

I remember a couple of years ago a running back from Little Rock went to USC. He wanted to come back to be close to his sick grandmother, so he applied for immediate eligibility hardship at Arkansas and it was granted. The UofA is about a 3 hour drive from Little Rock.

Barry Brunetti is currently tied for most touchdowns on the season for Ole Miss. He does have a very specific role, but he is not riding the pine.

Agreed. But more than Memphis, he probably would be maxing out in playing time if he had stayed at West Virginia. They have serious QB problems this year and could really use Brunetti or any other quality QB.

And what is surprising is that Holgorsen does not seem to have the confidence in Clint Trickett, a grad school transfer from Florida State.

The money is great for WVU in the Big 12. But the move may well be a long term dilemma for WVU. The longer they are snubbed by the ACC, the more things may erode. And I especially don't know how well they can sell their former recruiting base (Pittsburgh/Western PA, Eastern Ohio, DC, Florida and New Jersey) on playing in a Texas/Oklahoma dominant league with the closest road trip (Iowa State) more than 800 miles away.

Is he coming back because he has a sick family member or is it because he is homesick? If just because he is homesick, he should have to sit out.

No way he gets a waiver. He plainly states he's just homesick. Nothing wrong with that but it's not going to qualify him for a hardship.

There's probably as good of a chance he ends up at Memphis as Ole Miss. Some rumblings that Freeze and the staff might want to pass and instead save the scholarship for a more pressing need. We have much bigger problems than OL. We are razor thin in the secondary and at tight end. Hard to give that scholly to an OL when we are fairly young and talented on the OL. You could snag an extra stud HS or JC cornerback with that scholarship.

If he were to transfer to Memphis or OM and not get the waiver, he would essentially go almost 3 years without playing in a football game. That's what Freeze wants to avoid. I think one way he could end up at OM is to go the Zach Mettenberger route. He can play JC ball in Mississippi and then sign with OM in 2015. That gives us another scholarship for 2014 and he will still have 3 years of eligibility left.

Thank you for the note. I think it is safe to say that we need him more.

As a sometimes optimist, I can see a silver lining for us via Ole Miss' improvement in recruiting ... the Rebels are now landing national players at a higher pace. The result for us leaves open the back door for players like the duos from Byhalia and Olive Branch who might have been Ole Miss commitments prior to Freeze.
